We just adopted a wonderful 2 year old TWC, I take him to work every day, and he is never out of reach with either me or one of my families. He gets at least 2 ours of walks each day, which seems to suffice tiring him out for the most part. But we have a few issues to work on.
For starters, though we are trying to learn his language about when he needs to go out, there have been several "accidents" that seem rather intentional... he will go into either our room, or my son's room, and pee on clothing. Many times he has jumped on the bed and almost peed there. We are on edge, not letting him out of our site right now because of this. Is there any other way that we can break this habit? Yesterday we had a fairly lengthy standoff where he insisted on jumping up on my desk. I finally took my shoes off and jumped up on the desk myself, so I was towering over him, and firmly told him Down. It seemed to work. Also, he seems to become very alert around 8:30 PM - going to the window, looking for neighborhood cats, alternating whining and pacing back and forth. Several times I've tried to take him for a walk to tire him of this, but he resorts to the behavior when we come back inside. (We have toys, make him work for his food, and so on.) At times he seems quite submissive. At other times, he seems to really test the boundaries... |

I'm looking for a seizure service dog for my daughter. Because of the amount of time it takes to get the dog, my daughter will be 5 by the time the dog comes home.
There is also a possibility of my daughter being autistic, therefore the dog will be trained in tasks for that as well. We need a larger dog that can act as a brace to help my daughter up and to walk around after her seizure. We like long haired dogs. Obviously the dog needs to be good with kids her age. It also needs to be good with other animals, as we have two other dogs and a cat. This needs to be a dog that is mostly docile indoors, but the availability of a large yard to being taken on walks is not an issue at all - we can do that. A high possibility of seizure detection ability before they happen would also be good. This is a dog that will sleep in her bed at night and stay by her side during and after a seizure. I am avoiding the main breeds - goldens, labs, and poodles, because they're so common, and I was given the ability to choose basically whatever breed I want. Right now, I'm leaning towards a NAID dog. My daughter is drawn to them and so are we. The information I have read from the breeder websites and dogbreedinfo.com suggests that it would be a good dog for the task, as well as one of the breeders I've talked to. Other breeds I'm considering are Irish Setters, GSD, and Border Collie. Thoughts?

I recently went through a brutal separation that uprooted my life, started online stores & was doing Craft Shows. All was looking promising & along came Tropical Storm Debby.
I was one of the most critical flood cases. I lost home, possessions, inventory, income & more. Then along came Hurricane Isaac that also impacted me. I now received a call that my mom in her 90’s took a drastic decline & w/the help of a friend was able to make the trip north. I drove 26 hours to be with mom. My daughter & her husband were working out the logistics to have me move in w/them. To our surprise we were informed by their landlord that my dog could not be in the building. I will not abandon my precious dog as she is all that I have left in life & what has kept me going. She has been with me through all my tears & has been a joy in my life…she is part of my fibers. Kenya is a small approx. 55 lb 10 yr old West Shepherd, is not a barker, is low key & easy to tend. She is well behaved, obedience trained, house broken & has never had an accident in the house. She is very loving, grew up w/cats, loves people, children & other pets. She is neutered, current on all shots & vaccinations, gets monthly flea treatment etc Photos of Kenya and information http://www.rover.com/pets/dogs/kenya-26705/ I need someone to take her in for a long term period of time or share the time w/someone else, She is easy to care for & everyone who meets her falls in love w/her. My daughter & I would like to be able to visit her & walk her when possible & convenient for whoever graciously could take her in. I would pay for food, vet care if needed, & help in whatever capacity. Without this help I will be homeless. It is breaking my heart to be separated from her and I do not intend to give her up. But I desperately need help. I can be contacted at frogandhummingbirdco@yahoo.com

We are a military family who will be moving to Italy very soon. Unfortunately, we can not take our beautiful Karma with us due to housing rules. Karma loves children, playing with her balls and stuffed animals, and a good game of tug-of-war. We need a loving family or individual to take her. She loves long walks, and needs a nice sized yard because she is very energetic. Karma just turned 3 on 20 November. She is obedient, and house-broken. We live in Norfolk, Virginia.
Please contact us if you have any interest in having Karma.

I switched browsers to Firefox and lost the link to this page. I was just looking at old links on Explorer and saw this one. To (very belatedly) answer your question, no one ever had any issue with my age in regards to adopting a pet. In fact, several of our local social services agencies have programs to match rescue pets with seniors and disabled. I am going on a fundraisig walk with Simba this weekend for a programs that matches rescued pets with people with AIDS. These agencies generally accept responsibility for the welfare of these pets. If their owner passes on and they are still healthy themsleves, they are placed with a new human family in the program. If they are getting frail themselves they are taken home for retirement by community volunteers.

I have a Pure Bred Presa that is going on 5 yrs old. She has not been fixed. The other day she turned on my Lab and bit a sizable chunk off her ear. I had to basically choke hold the Presa and drag her to her crate. Before I purchased the Presa (at the age of 3) she was obedience trained and di weight pulling competitions. She has never gotten aggresive before and I am extremely worried for the safety of my other pets. Will getting her fixed calm her down? Any ideas why now she is acting this way?

My disabled boyfriend and I were volunteering at a "rescue ranch" near Elbert, CO. My boyfriend ended up getting ill and we found out that I was pregnant (currently 23 weeks today). We got kicked off the ranch due to our "conditions". We are staying with my boyfriend's sister but we cannot keep my dog, a Wheaton terrier mix, here as her landlord will not allow any more animals. I am hoping that after I give birth that we can find a place of our own so that I can have my dog back. He is very good with other dogs (definately a beta-dog), very mellow (except some separation anxiety, and he is not used to cats so he chases them around the house.
