It's Lady!
Short History of the Breed:
The American Eskimo is a sociable breed descended from the German Spitz. They were bred to be companion dogs and they fulfill this role very nicely. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they were trained as circus dogs due to their intelligence and agility. They were trained to walk the tightrope, jump through hoops and even ride horseback!

Physical Description and Size:
Known as "Eskies", they come in 3 sizes. The Standard is the largest and measures from 15 inches to 19 inches high at the shoulders and usually weighs between 18 to 35 pounds. Miniature American Eskimo Dogs are 12 inches to 15 inches high and Toys are 9 inches to 12 inches.

The males are usually larger than the females and have a large "ruff" or mane around their necks.

Temperament : Intelligent, quick, "canine doorbells" they are quick to alert you to change. If well-socialized as a puppy they are sweet and get along well with most everyone. If not socialized, they can become snippy and fearful of others.

Dog Care
Eskies are high energy as puppies and need regular exercise like any dog. They're long, white coat looks more intimidating than it is. They need to be brushed a few times a week to keep the coat looking nice.

Twice a year they "blow" coat which requires more frequent brushing. Their fur has the remarkable ability to "clean itself", i.e., after running around the dog park they leave looking dirty, a few hours later, the dirt is gone. It's an eskie marvel.

High quality food will always affect any dog in a postive way.
There is no special diet the Eskie requires.

Health Issues and Life Expectancy
Eskies tend to live to around 15-16 years old. They are prone to hip dysplasia as they get older as well as eye problems (retinal atrophy). These conditions are hereditary and can be avoided.
