"Just wanted to let you know that the German Coolie will be included list of ASCA-accepted herding breeds. The update to the list should be implemented in the next revision of the Stockdog Rules and Regulations which is 06/01/2006. If you have any questions please let me know."

If there is no standard, then who determines what is a Koolie and what guidelines does this person go by?

I can't believe I found this!!!! My grand father had a dog, when I was a child, named Koolie/Coolie. She was a blue merle and he used her to keep racoons out of the grape orchard. He used to visit Australia quite a bit getting grape plants that were used to the heat and dry weather. He said he got her from Australia and brought her to California with him. He passed away in 1995. He would have enjoyed seeing these dogs on here. I remember growing up and playing in the grape orchard with this dog and some of the other dogs that looked like her that the workers had. I guess they were the same kind, because they all looked alike.

I'm trying to follow the History but the grammer is so bad I am unable to make sense of it. There seems to be alot of retracting and counter-tracking and confusion between the History and the first page of these dogs. If they aren't Collies, then why DNA test for all the Collie diseases? That seems like a waste of members money, time and effort + it gives them a false sense of security thinking their dogs are disease free. If they aren't Collies then testing for Collie diseases does no good. I did look up the breed on the Australian Shepherd Club of America site and the breed is known as German Coolie --- yet, it says here they are known as the Australian Koolie by ASCA. Just from reading all the posts all this fighting back and forth has kept me from wanting to even consider this breed or even joining this club, even though I find it intriguing.

"Members of the Koolie Club do not indulge in slander, abuse or malicious vadalisum of other breeders or groups as written in the clubs constitution."
Really could of fooled me: Do you think people dont talk to each other or something? the best example being a KCA committee member slandering a breeder with in ear shot at a dog trial. Also most people interested in buying a puppy ring around and often repeat the things they are told by KCA representantives to the breeder concerned. Big country small world mate :) What about threatening phone calls, and straight out lies in contact to other breeders, honestly if you hadnt tried to be clever by making up stories to suit yourself and personal gain life would of been a lot more pleasant for you and your mates. As long as you continue to live in your little fantasy world - you have created - people are going to ask questions. Remember all the things you say are slander people have the back up for emails etc you have also stated that you used rescues for breeding on a huge forum but then attack others when they suggest it That is hardly ethical and in my opinion makes the KCA look stupid to the detriment of the other members. What a shame - for what should of been a great experience of fellow ship and learning turned into mush because of your pathetic attempts to control others.

According to the information obtained from the University of California, Davis, California, there were ONLY 56 Koolies tested for the mutation in their genetic makeup that causes sensitivity to Ivermectin. There were many other breeds tested also, including Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Smooth and Rough Coated Collies, Working Kelpies, to name a few. I guess since some of these breeds tested negative, their lines can be proven to exist prior to the 1800's.

There is a mistake in your narrative, ASCA recognizes the breed as GERMAN COOLIE, not Australian Koolie. Myself and Ashley Moya/President of the German Coolie Club of America were instrumental and responsible for having the German Coolie placed on the ASCA list of accepted breeds. Please remove it or give us credit. I could post the email from the Stockdog Committe Chair, Mike Bryant, if you'd like.

ASCA recognises the breed "German Coolie", not Australian Koolie. The German Coolie Club of America, along with The Coolie Registry were the sole persons responsible for petitioning the Stockdog Committee and getting the breed recognised as the German Coolie.

I've created this primary index page that both German Coolie and Australian Koolie link to initially. I'm hoping that I could have some assistance in maybe creating the content for this introductory page that will give users a brief, objective overview of these dogs and even of the controversy that exists. Then for further information on the specifics, the user will be able to follow the links to the appropriate page.
Also, the content for these specific types will also need to be updated, or worked out accordingly... Please let me know if I can be of further assitance...thanks for adding to this great resource!!
