Due to financial restraints, we have had to leave our home and farm in Maine. The sheep were easy to give away, the dog much less so.
Luke is a 7 year old purebred kelpie. Good temperment, not great with young kids (he likes to herd them), playful guy. Purebred with tatoos and papers for proof. We got him from a woman who had trained him for agility and he does not like that, but he does love frisbee! So he does have good manners and excellent instinct on sheep and goats, but chickens are his real love. He can put away a bunch of free ranging hens in no time! AND, he's never put his mouth on one of them. In fact, one of his favorite games was to herd the girls into a group and then be let loose to go scatter them. The hens adored and respected him. I can be reached at jclarkmello@yahoo.com. This is the hardest move I've had to make, but he is miserable having to be on leash or in a kennel.

HI,
I am looking for an australian kelpie puppy or younger dog. Either from a breeder or a rescue. I have at least 20 years experience in the breed and am VERY familiar with them. I just happened to come across mine, and now they are very hard to find. I am in located in Bakersfield, Calif. I currently have 2, and one is getting up in her years. I would like to get a young one, or a puppy to learn from my older one (Dusty). I can't take her on long rides like I used to, but she still loves to go. So I take it easy on the long rides so she can plod along. I would like a new one to learn from her for a couple years before she is "retired." I have found all my young dogs learn from my older dogs so much better than just teaching them alone. I am very experienced in training them and all my dogs (I have 3) are indoor/outdoor dogs. They are in the house when it is cold, wet, hot, and at night time. I work for a vet, so I have quick access to medical needs. My dogs aren't used for breeding, they are used for family companionship, and riding companionship. I am deaf, so my dogs are a big help in being my "ears." Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Shannon rebimpress@aol.com

CROSS-POSTED: Please contact Quaslor@aol.com (Quaslor @ aol.com -- remove spaces)
Please Crosspost - Dated Jan. 8th. 2007 An Australian Kelpie is at the Carrol Co. Shelter in KY (right about Louisville). They've tried to find a rescue to take this boy. Needless to say, Kelpie Rescues are far and few between. They've temperament tested him and he ignores the barking and other dogs, LOVES people and children and is very gentle. Today is his last day if we can't get him into a rescue. I will pay for his vetting and help with transport if a group will/can take him. I'm moving so I can't take anymore fosters yet. Please save Little Bit. He weighs between 20-25lbs. Can you add the "Australian Working Kelpie" breed, please? The Australian Kelpie and Australian Working Kelpie are two different breeds. Thanks
