• The city recently passed an ordinance giving local restaurants the right to allow 4-legged family members to dine along side their humans. Probably the best restaurant to requent is Freddie's Place on S 1st street, which has a great outdoor dining area that's really more of an evening hang out spot than a restaurant! • Austin has 12 designated leash free areas, listed here. Several have ample access to the city's many water sources, some are located on the hike & bike trail, and a couple are fenced in if you have a roamer. There are no fees and no initial temperament testing, just come as you are (of course, it's preferred that your dogs be well behaved in public)!
• Austin lies in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It's truly a gem with all the scenery and outdoor activities. There are several greenbelts in the city, as well as a 10+ mile hike & bike trail along the Colorado River downtown for those dogs who love to jog!

However, before you pack up your pooch and head off to the islands, be aware that taking your dog will require a significant amount of advance preparation.
