Cleo - a SpichonThis is a featured page

This is my dog Cleo's page. Cleo was born on 10 January 2003. She is a "Spichon", a Spaniel - Bichon cross. You may also know the American hybrid name of "Cock-a-Chon". But Cleo is a European dog so she has her own mixed breed name! ;-)
Baby Cleo
Baby Cleo when she first arrived in her new family - 10 weeks old.

It's tiring being so cute.

Cleo enjoys hugs with her doggy parents, opening the mail, sorting through her dry dog food to pick out the yucky-tasting bits, begging for treat sticks, going for walks with her doggy grandad, playing with other dogs, rolling in stuff that stinks, going to the beach, playing with her squeeky toy "Number 2" and doing many cute things. The main event in her day is when her doggy parents come home from work. She definitely likes weekends better than weekdays.
Christmas Cleo!
Any gifts under that tree for me?!
Catching a few rays of spring sunshine.
Fun at the beach.
Snowy gardens are fun too.

About the "breed"...

Spichon is not a really a breed, Cleo is more the product of an "accident". But here's a few words about what life with Cleo entails.

She is a very loving dog (this comes from the Bichon Frise). She needs companionship and she likes to be up on the sofa with you. She also likes to have her own private space (her dog bed) where she can go for quiet time.

Cleo is a fussy eater. We have finally found dry dog food that she quite likes, and she probably only picks out about a third of the biscuits so she doesn't have to eat them. She finds human food far more interesting but doesn't get a lot of it.

She sheds her coat all year round. The worst time is late spring-summer. But we have a constant battle with fine white dog hair all year. Because her coat is fine, Cleo has a doggy sweater to wear on winter walks.

Like all dogs, Cleo enjoys a good walk. But if it's raining very hard she can pass on the walk and also enjoys energetic play. Her favourite toys are rubber squeeky toys that she can make a lot of noise with. She is quite a destructive dog and tends to chew up any soft toys she has. But she doesn't take out this destructive trait on anything else so it could be worse.

Cleo is a very friendly dog, but she prefers people to approach her on her level (crouching down), otherwise she feels threatened. She likes other dogs but prefers bitches to dogs, because they are much less interested in smelling her girlie bits!!

She is a fairly compact little thing, weighing in at 5.5kg (12lbs), and is probably around 25cm (10") tall to her shoulder. She has mostly Spaniel features, except her curly tail and Bichon eyes.

Cleo is a smart dog and knows how to get what she wants. She is, however, subject to "blonde" moments from time to time, but this is often brought on by over-excitement. Over-excitement is usually brought on by too much play.

Cleo is an extremely loving little dog and there is no way I would change her for anything in the world!

Welcome Cleo! You sound like a wonderful girl! I definitely see the Bichon side in her big, dark eyes. I love that second picture you have of her napping upside down--what a life!

I'm surprised that she sheds a lot. I would've thought that Bichon side of her would help a lot there. Do you know what type of Spaniel she is? What area do you and Cleo live in? Would love to add her picture to the City Guide section that is now in the works!
