Create a Fido First Aid Kit

HOW TO
MAKE A FIDO FIRST AID KIT

If you’ve got a plastic container with a locking lid, you can create a customized first aid kit for your pet. Keep your kit away from the reach of small children, but make sure it’s in a handy place in case you need it PDQ!

Here is a list of useful items you might want to keep in your first aid kit just in case Fido goes a sniffin’ somewhere his nose doesn’t belong:

  • Saline solution or eye wash to flush your dog’s eyes out in the event of irritation.
  • Wound disinfectant such as Betadine or hydrogen peroxide
  • Forceps to remove stingers or other possible items that may be lodged in the skin or paws
  • Pepto Bismol tablets for stomach problems
  • Benadryl tablets for allergic reactions
  • Triple antibiotic ointment
  • 1% hydrocortisone cream
  • Muzzle
  • Rubber bulb ear syringe for flushing ears or eyes
  • Rectal Thermometer
  • Petroleum Jelly, or Water Soluble Lubricant
  • Styptic Powder or Sticks to stop bleeding
  • Bandage Rolls and Vet Wrap
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Cotton Balls
  • Emergency Ice and Heat Pack
  • Large towel which can be used to either wrap your dog for warmth, or as a stretcher
  • Rubber gloves (you never know what you might be handling)
  • Zip Lock Bags (you never know what you might need to store)

Don’t forget—keep the phone numbers for your vet and for Animal Poison Control inside your kits! You should always check with your vet for proper medical advice.
