I hope that you Cat owners post pics of your hounds-as they are hounds-and the stock from which my Bluetick and Treeing Walker come from. The Catahoula Leopard dog is about the only hound breed recognised by the AKC-the others are called "Others". The AKC does say that Treeing Walkers are the most graceful. They haven't seen her, that's for sure-please post an album. Please-

I say....Hm.....Huskies, Golden Retivers, and Collies, mostly Huskies because they are the closet breed of dog to wolves. If I had a husky I would name him......LINK. xD But no, the dog that we own is a Mini Toy Poodle. And it's my mom's. The fish belong to my dad, while the hamster is all mine. And mai dog, Skipper, would like to comit murder--yup, that's right, kill the hamster. He'll nip at her when he has the chance! Stupid ol' dog!


OH, but my MOST FAVORITE are SAYMOEDS! Oooh, they're just like this little puffy cloud!

I think that this is a very controversial topic among dog owners, particularly those who are usually docked and cropped. I think that we can somewhat assimilate this to plastic surgery in people- some people think it's horrendous to change our natural looks, while others see nothing wrong with it. They are willing to undergo the discomfort to change their appearance, and who are we to say they can or can't? Of course, we are talking about people who can make decisions for themselves. Dogs, of course, have no say.

I still think that it is a decision that should be left up to the owners. There are benefits of docking tails and removing dewclaws (I have personally had 2 dogs who have almost lost intact dewclaws due to injuries), which is why it's been done for hundreds of years. Under normal circumstances these procedures are performed within the first few days of life. Studies suggest that the puppies' neurological systems aren't fully developed at this time so the pain experience is not as great, and if the procedure is done appropriately the puppies are usually back to normal very quickly. And, when done very young, the puppies probably will not have any negative effects as a result of the "trauma" of surgery. (I suppose we can equate this to circumcision in newborns.)

Ear cropping, on the other hand, is done later and is something I personally do not like. It has been shown to increase the likelihood of ear infections due to removal of the ear flaps, allowing organisms inside. But, I am not going to tell someone that they are cruel for doing it; it is their dog and if they have it done PROFESSIONALLY and appropriately then things should run smoothly.

I've heard that these dogs can be very good with kids as well, although although with this size of a dog, anywhere from 60 to 100 lbs, you always have to be very careful around children. It can easily inadvertently knock a child down. Also, small children may tend to treat the dog more like a big toy because of it's wonderfully furry, comfortable appearance. So, as with any dog, you'll need to supervise when around children, but their disposition is generally good.
