HIDE THE CHEESE!
This is a game we play with Comet and is good for mentally stimulating your dog - plus it's fun!
Take a chunk of cheese (or your dog's favorite treat) and cut it up into little bits
Have your dog stay in a particular room (close the door if you need to!)
Put pieces of cheese in various places in other rooms - down on the ground or on shelves or chairs but not more than six inches above the height of the dog's nose
Then call your dog and tell him or her to "Find the cheese!"
We like to give commentary such as, "Gosh, you're really close!" or "Two more pieces" etc.
Make it really easy at first so your dog gets the idea. Then start making it more difficult by hiding the treats under things.
