GOLDEN CAT

Golden Retriever and Catahoula cross. This cross is a unique blend of two wonderful dogs. First the pups get the wonderful temperament of the Golden Retriever and the hunting ability. Second, the pups get the tracking ability from the Catahoula Leopard Curr. The blend of these two breeds make for a good companion dog, as well as a hunting dog. They aren't for everyone, because these Golden Cats do tend to be high drive and want to hunt. They also make excellent Search and Rescue dogs and are almost unbeatable as tracking dogs (coming in 2nd behind the Bloodhound in tracking events).

SIZE/TEMPERAMENT

They are medium to large dogs, being 20 to 28 inches at the shoulder and weighing anywhere from 40 to 65 pounds. The puppy's size greatly depends on how large or small the parents are. Catahoula's tend to be stubborn, but with the cross of the Golden Retriever their stubborness is not seen.

HEALTH ISSUES

It is paramount that the Golden Retriever be screened for diseases that are common to that breed, before breeding. The Catahoula Leopard are relatively a breed that does not have many health issues. Color related deafness is common in the Catahoula due to lack of color on the head. The resulting pups from a Golden Retriever / Catahoula cross is virually disease free.
