My Cody will be 13 on May 15, 2008. June 2006 he was diagnosed with low grade lymphoma and we have been successfully treating it since. The about two weeks ago he was feeling poor and we could not figure it out. We took several x rays and finally found that he had a blockage in the intestines. He is almost 13 and I chose to have surgery to make him feel better. The Doctor found a chew toy. They just never grow up. Always a clown. Anyway when the Doctor was in his tummy he found a growth that was nasty looking so he took it out and that is how we found out about the hemangiosarcoma. I am just devasted. He has done so well, even with his really bad hips. NOw the vet says he only has about two months unless we do chemo then he will have between 6 and 9 months. I just do not know what to do. I do not want him sick from chemo, but the thought of him only being here only two months is heartbreaking.
We also lost our beloved Black Lab suddenly in January from spinal cancer. Why so much cancer? Thanks for listening, Karen and Cody |

This can be dangerous for the dog as those slivers can enter the jaw, cause infection and do real damage. Suggest you get some Bitter Apple at the Pet Supply store and spray the legs. If your dogs love Bitter Apple, as mine do, you can make a solution of 2 oz Alum powder to 6-8 oz of water to spray on the leg and other furniture the dog is attracted to.

Hi. I have a dog kilee who is a golden and is 3yrs old. My question is - is it normal for goldens of this age to chew on piano legs? why i ask is that my neibur has a 14grand pian0 and when ever her dog (stacie who is also a golden) always chews on them and the pian0 is about to cl0mp down. I do not want stacie to get hurt if it does happen to fall but stacie's owner thinks this is harmless fun. Is there anything I should do??
also KiLee has a thing to escape out the door when visiters come (it's ok cause we have a high fence) but is this sumthing i should be stopping? |

My golden, Lucy, died this past spring. She lived a wonderful long life -- almost 15 years old! She was such a sweetie-pie, with two main talents: loving me, and shedding. The love was SO BIG, I didn't mind the championship-quantity shedding one bit.

I had to laugh when I saw the breed standard 55-75 pound weight for goldens. My dog Jack, a retired rescued breeder (registered) weighed 120 pounds in his prime! Even now, an elderly 14 year old, he weighs 100 pounds

I'm surprised that there are more labs than goldens... when I think of goldens I picture them as the antiquated american dog. Anyone else?

My Golden, Jack, is 14 1/2 years old. I didn't adopt him until he was 9. He had been nebgelected until that time, living outdoors on a farm and fending for himself. He's such a loving boy I can't imagine him being out there all alone!

I live in Spain and have recently moved house. My new next door neighbour has a golden retiever called Sadie who was left alone day and night. she cried and whimpered for most of the day and I noted that her behaviour was repetetive and cowed. I persuaded the man to let me take her for walks. Now she lives with me duringt the day and returns to him at night. She now waks miles swims runs climbs and gives my husband and i a great deal of pleasure. we hope Jesus our neighbour will eventually hand her over. She is very thin, has anyone any ideas how to fatten her up?

My wife and I have three goldens, and my in-laws have four. We love their temperment, and they are so goofy about playing ball. We exercise all of them daily. The smallest of our crew of seven is Stella, our girl and mother of five of the other six. She is 85 lbs. and 20 in. The largest is Monkey. He is 110 lbs. and 26 in. The eldest is Willy, and he is now eight years old and the father of the same five out of six. The others in birth order are Emily, Butch, Max, and Cassie. They along with Monkey are part of a nine puppy litter. They were so cute, we just couldn't let them go. We have been working on a site to talk about our "Babies". You can see the progress at dameche.tripod.com. We've been pretty busy, but we will continue to work on it.

My Golden Retriever, Emma is just 7 months old. I was lucky to get her, being I was in the right place at the right time. The people that bought her last Christmas weren't able to keep her, and returned her. She was free to a good home, complete with pedigree, all shots and already micro-chipped. I guess you could say I more or less rescued her....I believe it was fate. She is a wonderful dog! Anyway, I did a search this morning looking for some good info. on Goldens. Emma had a bad ear infection when I got her. It was cleared up by meds. from her vet. Now, aprox. 8 weeks later, it appears she might be getting yet another ear infection. My question is, are ear infections a common thing with this breed? Any info. on this would be greatly appreciated...thanks

My Golden "Brandy Surfer Babe" is 11 1/2 years old. Granted she is starting to get long in the tooth, but she is still the best, most obedient dog in the world. Believe it or not, she poops on command, which saves cleanup during a walk. She never leaves the yard, never tied up, and quite frankly never trained. You see, she flunked obedience school, but quite frankly, the owner (me) is the one that actually flunked.
