Hounds are tracking and hunting dogs with powerful noses. They are also know for their incredible stamina levels. But make sure you don't mind the trademarked "baying" for which certain hounds are known.


Based on whether a Hound uses his sight to track or sound to track, there are two types of Hounds:
Sight Hounds and Scent Hounds

Sight Hounds:
Greyhound
Whippet
Borzoi
are the common sight hounds

Scent Hounds:
Beagle
Basset Hound

are the common Scent Hounds

    Hounds Training Needs

    Hounds have a mind of their own and do need formal training. If your SIght Hound or Scent Hound gets a clue to track, he may not pay any attention to your commands.
    In case, one is planning to adopt or obtain a Hound, one must factor in the price and commitment necessary of family members to train these one-track mind Hounds as a team.

    Hounds are hard to train, especially, because of their strong tracking instincts. However, with patience and persistence , specific training for examples -- Socialization, Obedience can be imparted to the Hounds
