Short History of the Breed
The Ibizan Hound is one of the oldest purebreed dogs in existence. Drawings of this breed appear in ancient Egyptian art, thousands of years old. You will probably recognize these drawings of tall, lean hounds, which were meant to be the Ibizan Hound.
These dogs were traditionally used over thousands of years to hunt and follow prey.
Physical Description and Size
This dog is tall and lean and weighs an average of 50 pounds for males and 45 pounds for females. Average height is anywhere from 23 1/2 inches to 27 1/2 inches to the highest part of the back, at the base of the neck.
Temperament
Extremely affectionate and loyal, this dog can be trained easily and makes a great family pet that loves to play. Very versatile, the Ibizan Hound also makes a wonderful show dog, or has a keen hunting instinct and can be used for tracking. Because of the thousands of years, this breed has spent hunting prey, they are an energetic dog that loves to run, play and pounce. They are likely to chase any creature in the yard that moves in their sight.
