ABOUT
It was noted that the majority of Australian's, that still depended on the Coolie as a working dog, prefer the name of the breed to be referred to as the German Coolie, or just the Coolie. The International German Coolie Society and Registry (IGCS&R) was created to preserve and maintain the pedigrees (through the use of our newly created pedigree database) and historical records of the German Coolie breed, sometimes called the German Colley/Collie, German Koolie, and/or Kuli.
After much discussion with other long time Coolie owners and breeders, The IGCS&R decided not to change the name of this historical breed. The authentic German Coolie has a known long lineage, proven working abilities and has been with some of the same stockmen for many generations. By changing the name, it would be like losing or disregarding a part of Australian and German history. The German Coolie was (and still is) an icon of a herding dog and that many Shepherds depended on their dog. The Coolie is as important now to the livestock industry, as they were in the 1800's. They are still responsible for cutting economic losses with their natural herding ability, impeccable work ethics and biddability, thus saving the producer many man-hours of work. Time is money in the agriculture world. A good herding dog can take the place of 4 to 6 cowboys. To change the name would be dishonoring those that worked so hard to perfect what we love about the Coolie breed to this very day.
PARTNERSHIP - AUSTRALIA
The IGCS&R/Australia was formed in June 2007 when a dedicated group of German Coolie enthusiasts from all over the world met to discuss the future of the breed. It was voted on and decided to enter into a joint partnership with the countries of Australia, the USA and Canada in the preservation and promotion of the German Coolie as the unique breed of dog that it has been since the 1800's. We encourage getting out with your dog and train in herding, stickwork, obedience, have fun with flyball; try tracking, stretch the mind with agility, have fun at the park. Build a life for your dog. It feels great. The IGCS&R believes in information sharing and international news, what's happening across Australia, a public health & pedigree database. Joining us has many benefits such as a quarterly newsletter, access to like-minded people; share experiences of highs and lows; just email for advice. Our members can commit themselves to our breeding schemes and become accreditted breeders.PARTNERSHIP - USA AND CANADA
The German Coolie Club of America was formed in 2005. The club was formed as a result of the lack of German Coolie related organizations within the United States of America. In forming this club we hope to bring attention to the breed, and to provide information and help to owners of the breed. With the German Coolie becoming more and more popular, it was voted on and decided to enter into a partnership with the countries of Australia and Canada in the preservation and promotion of the German Coolie as the unique breed of dog that it has been since the 1800's. The German Coolie Club of America is now known as the International German Coolie Society and Registry (USA/Canada Partnership).The objectives of the IGCS&R are as follows:
a) to encourage and promote the breeding of quality purebred German Coolie, and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection;
b) to educate members, prospective members, owners and judges;
c) to urge breeders to adhere to the standard of the breed as approved by the IGCS&R/US-Canada as the only standard of excellence by which German Coolie shall be judged;
d) to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed through a code of ethics, and sportsman-like conduct at various activities.
PEDIGREE DATABASE
The IGCS&R has implemented a pedigree database that is being currently filled with pedigrees/lines, DNA and health information, and historical data, that will soon (when completed) be available for viewing by the public. This is the only pedigree database of it's kind for the German Coolie in Australia, USA and Canada.RESOURCES
