Interview with Celebrity Dog Onion, the Bull Terrier

wikiFido presents another exclusive interview:
Meet our own celebrity wikiFido dog, most recently starring opposite Ewan MacGregor in the British blockbuster, Scenes of a Sexual Nature--Onion, the Celebrity Bull Terrier!

wikiFido: Welcome, Onion... wikiFido extends our warmest welcome, to you, our biggest celebrity yet, here on wikiFido. Thanks so much for squeaking in an interview between your engagements...I know you're all booked up these days, particularly since your debut film opened.

Onion and the Onion LightwikiFido: In reviewing my file that I have on you-- I just can't believe your accomplishments. You've done so much recently. I have to say--you're on fire! I mean, a new blockbuster film, a music video, and now, "Onion Lights" fashioned in your image. This is surely the beginning of an Onion craze! Can you tell us how this started for you? Did you always know that you were destined for the big spotlight? What came first and what led to what? Did it just all snowball for you?

Onion: Aw, you certainly know how to make a bullie blush! I think all dogs are stars, it’s just I’ve had the opportunity to shine (not just in the Onion Light!). My rise to canine celebrity began with my role in the movie. The pop video and Gold Good Citizen Award followed. Next I became a cyberdog and got my very own website, www.oniondog.com, and now there’s a light made in my name! I’m not the only star in the family though. My sister Elsa won best of breed at Crufts this year – she’s the beauty of the litter!

wikiFido: And specifically about your recent movie, Scenes of a Sexual Nature...It hasn't reached all of us yet, so can you tell us a little about this film and your role in it. Was the competition tough? Or do you think that they always had a Bull Terrier in mind for this role? I mean, for example, if a pug was cast in the role, would it have made the entire film different?

Onion: It’s a gentle British comedy with some great stars in it. My master’s an actor and he was offered the part of ‘jogger with dog’, so he volunteered me. When director Ed Blum saw me, I instantly got the dog part! Unfortunately, they cut my master’s part, so I appeared without him. I’m sure a pug, or any other dog, would’ve been fab too. As it was, a bullie worked well because in one scene my co-star is a bit scared of me (some people ARE scared of bullies) but by the end of the film he’s realised I’m just a soppy dog like most of my breed, and we sit on a bench together and I sniff him all over!

wikiFido: And of course, the question we're all waiting for...what was it like to work with Ewan and the other big stars? Did you find that your ego's clashed on the set?

Onion: I’m not actually in a scene with Mr McG. I co-star with the lovely Tom Hardy (pin-up from TV’s The Virgin Queen, nemesis in Star Trek Nemesis etc). I wondered if he might mind sharing the limelight with a dog, but far from it! We played a bit off set (on London’s Hampstead Heath) – he’s got a Staffie cross so we got on like a house on fire. His character spends the whole film chasing girls, then ends up with me for company – that’s what I’d call a happy ending!

wikiFido: Now, tell us about this music video. Which came first? The movie or the video? And why did you decide to switch genres? I mean, you can hardly worry about typecasting at this point in your career. Do you prefer one over the other? What was the more difficult role to play? Incidentally, I thought you really made that group look good... Rock stars tend to want to use other celebrities in their videos...

Onion: What I like to call my ‘pop career’! After the movie I was taken on by an agent. He got me the role in Aha’s ‘Cosy Prisons’ video. I guess he thought it would broaden my pooch portfolio! The pop promo was definitely harder than the movie because I had to sit STILL for ages with a little boy who didn’t want to be licked. The best bit was showing off my barking on command – that was part of the job brief! The band looked pretty cool eh? Apparently they had big hits way back in the 1980s, when my great-great-great-great-grandma was around!

wikiFido: So, Onion, what do you think is the biggest driving force in your life? Is it a person? Is it a meat? What would you say provides you with the proper inspiration to do all that you do?

Onion: Bull terriers sometimes get very bad press, so one thing that I like doing is changing people’s views of us. For example, lots of people say bullies are untrainable, so I studied hard and got my Gold Good Citizen Award, just to show them that’s not true! My master and mistress have always treated me like a diva, but they do TRY to keep my paws on the ground with lots of clicker-training. I love it. I get masses of treats and learn tricks to entertain children with! Food is definitely a big motivator – tripe stick scores high on my inspiration scale!

wikiFido: Onion, thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us, but before we go, just a couple of more questions... First, tell us the truth...you've been referred to as a "Pop Bitch." How does that make you feel? Do you enjoy the term...would you rather be viewed differently? What's on your mind?

Onion: Actually, I was going to thank YOU. I’ve enjoyed talking to you...limelight is a another great motivator! I like “Pop Bitch”. It sounds cool, and as I’m a bullie bitch who does pop it seems pretty accurate. My master and mistress sometimes call me “the little pig” or “the hog”, which is far worse!

wikiFido: And lastly, our readers want to know...What's next for Onion? Where will we see you next? Another movie, a TV series, as an action figure?
Onion: My latest project is the Onion Light. It was modelled on yours truly (I had to SIT, literally, for a sculptor!), and has just gone on sale on http://www.oniondog.com/shop.html. It’s even in posh London department store Liberty. I recently posed for a soft toy too (every celeb has to have her doll!), which should be ready soon. I might have a big snooze after all that, though I rather fancy trying my paw at an Onion book one day. I’ve not yet reached my third birthday, so who knows what’s in store! Watch my blog to find out...

wikiFido: Onion, thanks again, for your time. We think that you've got real star potential.... You've got beauty, brains, raw talent...your profile is to die for! We are honored to have you here on wikiFido and hope that you'll remember us here in your rise to the top! Oh, oh...one more thing...what does it for you? Rawhide or pig ears?

Onion: I’m blushing again... I LOVE being on wikiFido – thanks for having me here. And on that key question: pigs' ears every time. In fact, I’m banned from rawhide after I was overhasty one time and half-swallowed a piece whole. I nearly choked (not an elegant way for a celebrity to depart this world) and my master had to fish down my throat for it. So, mine’s a pig’s ear! Thanks again for having me on wikiFido, and a big lick to all those other wikiFido-ers out there.

wikiFido: And so you have it folks, our exclusive interview with Onion, the Celebrity Bull Terrier. Score another landmark interview for wikiFido! Onion is one awesome dog!
