Italian Greagle - Dogs & Dog RescueItalian Greagle - Dogs & Dog Rescue

Origin

Italian Greyhound + Beagle = Italian Greagle. The first known Italian Greagles were bred in Great Falls, Montana by the Kelly & Angela Easley at the request of their daughter, Samantha. The Easley's had incorporated a long line of purebred beagle bloodline from Ray County, Missouri and a the noble pedigree of a distinct line of Italian greyhounds.

Selective Breeding

The American Kennal Club standard for beagles is a height of 13 to 15 inches and a weight of 20 to 40 pounds. Miniature "pocket" beagles (created through selective breeding of the smallest of litter over the years) range from 9 to 11 inches in height and are ideal for breeding with the sleek body of an Italian Greyhound.

Traits and Temperament

Italian Greagles display traits of both beagles and Italian Greyhounds. Driven hunters by nature, Italian Greagles have both the prey drive of a sighthound and the nose of a beagle. The dog can't help but chase anything that moves; for this reason one should NEVER allow an Italian Greagle off lead unless in a securely fenced area.

The Italian Greagle loves to run, and can be quite fast and agile. A 20-30 minute walk or run each day will keep this breed from becoming bored. Italian Greagles are fairly relaxed indoors, provided they get sufficient exercise. A low-fat, high-protein diet is recommended to keep the dog healthy and encourage the development of lean muscle.

For more information, research specific traits of each parent breed (Beagles and Italian Greyhounds).

Libby may have ended up in the pound from irresponsible overbreeding. Please do not intentionally breed unless you are SURE your animals will have responsible, safe homes. Avoid unintentional litters by having your pet spayed or neutered.

Fortunately, Libby's life was saved and she is now in a loving forever home!

Pups from Missy Girls Last "Greagle" litter. It seems that Greagles come out either Brown and White or Black and White.

MOOSE - He was the First, the Biggest puppy Missy had. Loveable little guy - found him a great home.

Bessie - For some reason she came out looking like a Cow. Her ears were like a Bassett Hound! She now calls a little 10 year old Girl "Mommy"...

we recently lost our Beloved "Little Puppy" whom we rescued from the side of the road in a cage. We got to spend / share a little over a year of his precious life with him. He was 9 weeks old when we found him. We would like to find out where we can adopt / rescue another one of these beautiful babies and bring him (preferably a male) into our home with our other dogs and family. please contact me or by husband if you have any leads. Thank You. jkoteski7@gmail.com (Jamie) chrsgaumond@gmail.com (Chris)

I took a chance and combined Italian Greyhound and Beagle on Google and found this page. My dog is the spitting image of Libby!
I adopted her from our local shelter recently. She is 9 months and the vet said she is a terrier mix but I disagreed. I could see she had beagle in her but her build was too light and her legs too long to be terrier. Her coloring really threw me off too.

We got a stray from the pound which we believe is a Beagle / Italian Greyhound mix. She is over 1 year old we believe and is full grown at 13 pounds. She looks a lot like the brown and white Greagle posted by someone else here. Our girl has a mini beagle face and tail while the body is all Italian Greyhound. Does not bark alot. Nice disposition. Boy can she run like the wind so we called her 'Turbo'. I will try and post some pics.
