you see im studying dogs and witch is the best. I'm in grade 6 and doing this project for fun. I was wondering what is really special about labs than golden retrievers. You see my mom loves golden retrievers and my brother loves labs. And I just want to see what dog is better.(not saying both aren't). Can you help me answer this question? Dog Lover:Echo

Labs are more laid back, and they love to eat. Golden Retrievers are more active, and love to play. They both are very affectionate and loyal. They both are very good dogs, so it is hard to chose, but I think that I like the Golden Retriever a speck better. They both are wonderful dogs! You will be satified with either one, I'm sure.

I have a yellow short coated sister and a black long coated brother lab. They just turned a year old, and I got them from someone who had them in a small pen together without any human interaction other than to put feed in their cage, from the time they were 6 wks old until I got them 2 mos ago. The first thing I had to do was get them to know and trust me that I would not leave them and teach them to not jump on me. At this point, they have both learned to sit or stand quietly when I come to them so that I can pet them. I say give mama hugs and they each stand up to hug me and give me kisses, but no longer jump on me. I have scars from scratches i got in the beginning, but I consider them badges of honor from the days when I got my two babies and we began to know each other. I am now beginning to take each one and train them for sporting events, and lookin into therapy service and/or water/search rescue. I adopted an 8 yr old chihuahua mix with a cleft pallet who has a short lower jaw and breathing issues, and she weighs 2 lbs but thinks shes as big as the other two I have. If I could, I would take all dogs not wanted and love them. Im not alone in my feelings I am sure

I have found that the sooner you train them, the better. Breaking them of bad habits early always makes it easier.

Find a local obedience school. They are the best way to learn how to control your dog. No one likes a dog leaping on them when they walk in the door or dog hair stuck to your outfit after sitting on the couch.

Often, after going to dog parks, Indy develops a dog cold - goopy eyes, sniffles, and a cough. I've been letting him drink from the public water bowls, but someone suggested that this could be the source of his ailments. Should I avoid water bowls that serve hordes of canines? Are they really just cesspools of dog disease?

I have a 1 year old lab who is very excitable. One of the main problems is the jumping up on people. She's great fun to walk off the lead, but I'm constantly on the look out for people incase she jumps up, and I can't walk her in busy parks off the lead incase she jumps up on anyone. Does anyone know how to stop this?

"two things have worked for me, first is to TOTALLY ignore the dog and walk away when they jump, when they greet you on all fours, go crazy with the praise and affection...if that doesn't work give them a good knee jab when they jump on you." jesus.... thats mean!

when your dog gets older he will prollbelly stop. but when you want to play with him or give him something that might get him excited take him out side. that way hill go outside.

I am very concerned with the findings shared on the woman on
television last week reconstructing her face after her pet lab chewed
it up. I firmly believe that pet was neglected by drug use of the victim.
It is never the nature of a domestic lab to do this. they are used as guide dogs
and campanions. i am concerned the media is going to create a mass
paranoia of labs. I picture the owner smoking drugs and the lab getting
agitated while the owner passes out this pet reacted normally. i am convincec
of this. beyong a shadow of a doubt.
