MAR Technician Course
This course is designed for those who plan to train a dog to find lost pets as a fee-based service. This is a certification course that teaches you how to conduct lost pet investigations that includes training in how to use search dogs to find lost pets, forensics, deductive reasoning, and search probability theory. This training enables attendees to pull in revenue for their lost pet services. During the MAR Technician Course you will learn: • How to use high-tech equipment and trained search dogs to locate lost pets. • A step-by-step process of how to train a dog to locate lost pets. • How to use deductive reasoning to process clues, search probability theory to know where to search, and behavioral profiling to predict the distance a lost pet will travel. • How to collect and analyze physical evidence to solve lost pet investigations. • How you can prepare to offer MAR services in your community as a side business, through an existing business, or as a community service through a nonprofit organization. • Pet grief counseling principles. • How pets behave when lost, how far they travel, and the most probable locations where they can be found. • How behavior (human and animal) influences the chances that a lost dog or lost cat will be reunited with its owner/guardian. • How to use "trap-and-reunite" techniques to recover displaced cats. • How to launch innovative "Loose Dog Recovery" teams using "attract-and-capture" techniques to capture loose/panicked dogs during disasters and on the 5th of July.
This course typically runs all day Friday through the end of Wednesday*. The fee in 2008 for the MAR Technician certification course is $625.00.
