I rescued Rosa when she was 5 months old. She was found next to a dumpster. She is now 1 1/2 years old. I've had 3 other dogs and she was by far the most challenging but has become the most wonderful dog. Love and training is all it takes. I used a shock collar on her twice and that's all it took. She has become the most lovable, sweet dog. Not a mean bone in that body. She now knows who is boss, who loves her, who feeds her and now wants to please me. She has sooooo much personality and you should see this dog jump! Wow. Her back feet hit the top of my 6 foot fence. It's incredible and she can sniff out anything. We walk in the park every night and she has incredible senses - all of them. She makes me laugh every day. She has soooo much spunk and has brought so much happiness back into my life. She is so incredibly beautiful too. I love her sooooooooo much!

I personally thought it was my worst pet purchase. I spent over a grand on the dog. I already own three dogs, and this dog is by far the most timid and unresponsive. In addition, the dog isn't very loyal and always tries to avoid me when I'm calling its name or getting its attention. I really hate to say it, but i think i made a big mistake buying this dog, even as a dog lover its hard for me to find any good traits in this dog.

We have been NAID owners now for about 3 months. Our puppy is just amazing! He grew really quick...be prepared for a big puppy! He is super smart and is very trainable. He is so eager to please. He is great with strangers and with other dogs. As with any puppy, PATIENCE is key. I can't stress that enough. No dog learns over night. It takes consistency and discipline. Our puppy enjoys the outdoors most of the day, and loves to come inside and be a part of the "pack" at night. If you train and treat these NAID (wolf hybrids) as you would train and treat any dog, you will have a great family pet. For those people that claim their dogs were unresponsive and not loyal... I don't think its right to blame the breed or the breeder. Maybe the problem is with the owner? I'm just saying...;)

i hate how the naid gets such a bad rap. the fact that the people who talk bad about them usually dont own one or have never seen on in person (all the actual naid owners i talked to love their dogs to death and have no problems) these people cant watch them and see how they act if they dont even own one. i do this with my NAID, Tala, every day. the only thing that i see that MIGHT be associated with a wolf is that they are timid. but there are so many breeds like this. other than that, everything is really just dog like. for example, a wolf, when they walk, have a quiet stride with a wide gate, they learn this walk early on so that out in the wild they can be silent while stalking pray or to stay hidden from other preditors. the naid definately does not do this! they sound like a horse when they run! they pick up each foot individually like a normal dog. sure they look like wolves, but has any of these people seen a simple wolf-gray siberian husky?? they look more wolf than the naid! or the sable huskies? people are so used to show dogs aka the black/white, silver/white, red/white huskies and not the working dogs that are most often used not in dog shows, but for work.
the alaskan malamute is another dog in the mix. with the right colors they too look a lot like a wolf. the intelligence of the naid HAS to say that they are wolf right? wrong! all the breeds used to make this dog are extremely intelligent! the german shepherd is used in police and rescue work for a reason, their intelligence makes them perfect for the job. the husky, malamute and chinook are all used for dog sledding, they need to be smart to be able to pull a sled and learn all the commands and be able survive in this work. see this is what you get if you do your research, you get the truth, the actual facts, not oppinions which just lead to these rumors. i love my Tala so much, sure he is stubborn sometimes, but i really wouldnt give him up for the world! |

I am surprised at the poster below's comments. My NAID is amazing, I couldn't be without her. She's smart, loyal, athletic and very protective (but sweet) with our son. She was pretty much the perfect family dog for us. She is timid/passive around other dogs but once she settles into the group (ie, at her daycare, the dog park, etc) she is just fine and runs around and plays. I've had Border Collies my whole life but having her has been wonderful. They are a more sensitive breed and do require a more experienced and attentive owner than Lassie/Golden Retriever types that are bred for obedience. :)

NAID's can be a bit different than most dogs. This is because they have quite a bit of wolf blood. My father used to raise wolves, so maybe i can give some advise to the potential NAID owner. Ideally, YOU should be the first thing the new pup experiences, even it this means bottle feeding the pup as soon as it's born. This is to imprint it from birth that you are the Alpha. Alternitavely, you should put in a surrogate mother of a more easygoing breed, like a collie, and visit it as much as you can. Seeing as how most of you are buying them at around 8 weeks old, they'll already have someone else imprinted in thier minds. Spend as much time as you can with them while their young and make sure they know who's boss, and making sure that they respect and trust you, and don't fear you. NAID's don't respond too well to harsh admonishions. Be gentle and be patient and soon you'll have another loveable, albeit fuzzy, member of the family.
I hope this helps!!

I just recently got one. The breed is very shy, indepedent, and stubborn. I have a lot a of trouble training it because it whines alot and is easily spooked at every thing.

These dogs are very sweet and excellent tempered. Our dog is very headstrong and independent. It listens very well and everytime we bring it on a walk people comment on its beauty and poise. Owners of loud and noisy dogs are astonished at the NAID's elegance and ability at following instructions.

We got NALA from a family in NJ where it seems that the father must have beat her. She was only about 10 months old when we got her and I had never seen a "dog" so scared of everything and fro about the first 2 months I thought putting her down would have been the best thing we could do for her. Her evry waking moment was spent in mortal fear! Well as time passed she seemed to get better. It's almost 4 years down the road now and with my wife and I she's great, loves to play with us and roughhouse. She loves other dogs. But, she still is scared around other people :( Which really stinks because she's so beautiful I'd love to bring her more places just to se peoples reactions, because whenever we take her for a walk in the state park right by us anybody who sees her ALWAYS ask's the same question............................"OMG, is that a real wolf???".

In my personal opinion, it is true that these dogs are very head strong. I have a NAID that I bought when he was 10 weeks old. No one could possibly prepare me for what I had gone through with him. Lakota ,my NAID, did very well in training as a pup, but we didn't keep going with it. We take him to the dog park for socialization which has helped him with his shyness towards strangers but he still is timid and is often spooked easily by sudden changed. we still love him though and has such a sweet disposition. He just requires a lot of time. IF you don't have the time to invest with them or looking for a house dog, they aren't for you. They don't like being confined either, so you can't crate them. Don't even try because they will feel they are being punished. Our Lakota has gotten better with listening the older he gets and we take a lot of advice from the dog whisperer which has proven to be more effective than any other training we've gone through.
