Fido Facts… Recorded in 1968 for the Beatles' White Album, "Martha My Dear" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney has the following lyrics:
Martha my dear You have always been my inspiration Please remember me Martha my love don't forget me Martha my dear
Clearly, McCartney, who wrote the lyrics, was smitten with Martha. And who was Martha? Many rock scholars contend she was McCartney's English sheepdog at the time. But in 2005, Steve Turner wrote in A Hard Day's Write: The Story Behind Every Beatles Song that Martha was in fact the name Sir Paul gave his inner muse, and that Martha the sheepdog was named after imaginary Martha.
