Pearl-Yetta Austin Willis
For My Beloved 'Queenie'
Yetta posed for this herself! I didn't 'get her to sit like this' to take a pic ...I got in habit of keeping camera close and one night when Mama was 'surfing' ... I looked over and was able to catch this pic!
It was like she was sayin' " oh Mama..... take a pic of me!!!:"
My dog's name was:
Pearl-Yetta Austin Willis, her initials are PAW ! She could sign her own name!
I got the name 'Yetta' out of a baby name book my daughter had given me.... it literally means "ruler of the house". I could never have picked a more fitting name!

My dog was born on: December 7, 1995, Pearl Harbor Day....thus the 'Pearl'

The breed of my dog was: Yorkshire Terrier

My dog was special because:
We instantly bonded and were BFF! We had to spell around her if we did not want her to know what we were saying! Especially the
'B-E-A-C-H' word cuz the beach was her favorite place. :-)
checkin out what Daddy got on da beach!
She always seem to know when Mama needed her close and was there in an instant.
She was the one and only 'Queenie'(Yetta literally means 'ruler of the house' & she definitely WAS!), the "Yetta Girl" and when mama meant business she was 'YettaMarie'!
... and my friends would say "where does the Marie come from?" and I would reply "Well it's her (Catholic) confirmation name, of course!
She was one of my Christmas presents in 1995
and definitely, the BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER!!!
Things I'll never forget about my dog:
After the ice storm of '97 (when we got iced in for a week), we had just got home from picking up daddy's truck from being repaired and Yetta decided she had nuff of the 'inside stuff' (we had been stuck inside in below freezing weather with no power for a week!) and she took off when we arrived home.
Well it was getting dark and we tried and tried to find her ( we have a really big yard!) and we kept sinking in the yard from the murk from the ice melting and the flashlight did not work cuz the batteries were gone.... well i was in tears and frantic as could be... we called neighbors across the road to see if she might have gone there since they have pets...
they came to help us look for her and they had a working flashlight... as they approached the house on the road, they shined the light and there she was under the big oak tree!!!
just a sittin!
somehow even with her leash on, she had managed to take off her pretty pink sweater and was just a sitting as content as could be under the tree!
I did not ever think that she would ever forgive me for bringing her 'brother' Jack in our home! She really liked being an only child. But once I explained to her that we had saved him from a life that was not as good as hers, she finally let up and let him into her heart.

With 'bro' Jack :-)

Thanks so much for sharing your special Pearl with us! She sounds like she was one amazing friend! Just like the page you put up for her bro, I really enjoyed reading about her and the pictures. What a great way to commemorate her! Your story about the ice storm was touching, indeed!
Very sorry about your loss, but it's so wonderful that she had such a joyous life with you and got to know her new brother so well! Thanks again for sharing--hope to hear more from you soon! |
