Redbone Coonhound - Dogs & Dog RescueShort History of the Breed

The breed came from foxhound blood lines and was breed for its ability to cold scent (smell trails hours to weeks old).
The breed is said to have been invented by a man whoes last name Redbone. The breed use to be red and white but the full red colored dogs were more favored because they blended in to the scenery better.

Physical Description and Size

Hight: 23"-27"
Drop Ears, Deep red color some white on chin, chest and paws permissible.

Temperament

Determined personality, can be stubborn but very affectionate and "in your face"
Highly energetic

Dog Care

(exercise, grooming, diet)


Minimal brushing (once a week)
High protien diet
At least a half hour of running or a full hour of walking a day

Health Issues and Life Expectancy

10-12 years
