Dog's name: Roxie Heart CGC Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Age: 1 1/2 years old How we met: She was behind bars for a month. I went to adopt a different dog but this freckly little red face stole my heart right away.
Getting to know each other: I honestly think it took Roxie a good 3 months before she realized I wasn't going to throw her out and another three to decide she liked me. We are now in month 10. She liked most dogs more than me until about a month ago, but I rate pretty high on her list now. The bonding / learning / living with each other process is still ongoing. I'm sure it will continue to change. She continues to try new things. The most recent is running full speed across the yard and launching herself at my chest. This will be fine once she does it on cue, but she gets a kick out of the surprise attack right now. What makes my dog special: She is loyal and loving, energetic, frenetic and goofy and watches everything in her environment.
My dog's likes/dislikes: She likes killing and eating birds, wrestling with her sisters, and jumping over things. She really dislikes bananas, go figure.
Smart dogs: ACD's are incredibly intelligent AND independent. It's like living with a perpetual 16 year old with a driver's license. Everyone seems to want a "smart dog" but they take more work, time and energy and a very warped sense of humor. If you can't find the humor in finding every pillow in the house in the backyard completely destuffed and can't appreciate how much time, effort and skill it took to gather all the pillows from three rooms and "kill" them don't get a smart dog.
