I have a 2 year shih tzu that is stinky. I have taken him to the vet to have his anal sacs expressed (the vet couldn't find the exact location of the stink and suggested he was licking himself and the fluid was being spread). But even after expression a week ago, he is smelling like a sour smelly old washcloth by the end of the day after a bath in the morning. I suspect a sinus infection. I have checked his ears, the vet checked his mouth for a bad tooth. I can't figure it out, and my sensitive nose can't take it anymore. Darby eats small dog dry food by Kirkland (Costco) and gets almost daily doses of canned pumpkin to keep his stools firm because of past problems with anal glands. I have never had a problem like this since I got him. Any ideas or suggestions?

My experience is just the opposite. People can't believe how easy going he is. He lives with 3 cats, loves kids, and is a friend to all. The only time he ever growls is when he is stalking and attacking his stuffed toys. When I take him out, he usually collects a fan club within 1-2 blocks, of people cooing over him. If I see a couple walking with a young child and the child looks like they want to meet the doggie, I always reassure them that he is very gentle, and is a good dog for them to meet. If I stop to talk with a friend, he just lies down to wait until I am finished, with no tugging or restless behavior. I know every shih tzu is different, but just wanted to let readers know that some are as sweet as can be. There are several shih tzus living in my neighborhood, and uniformly they are happy friendly little guys - very low maintenance.

I have a male shih tzu, he will be 4 in December. The past few days he has been favoring his left eye. It is not red at all, and has water in it, but it is not runny. I thought maybe it was a hair or his eyelashes. He does not seem to be hurting. Could he have been bit or been playing to rough and it is just tired? He is okay if I touch it and take a damp cloth to it. Please let me know.

My shitzu is 7 yrs. recently had a traumatic eye prob. We had surgety etc. since then her hair coloring has changed around her chin and tips of feet. Wondering if this is normal aging or if somthing is in deficiency etc.. Has anyone experienced this or know of this before. Her eyes produce more tear secretion etc. than before as well! The vets do not seem concerned but I am. If anyone knows of somthing to try Please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated!

My Shih Tzu would prefer to be the only dog in the house as he doesn't like other dogs much. He doesn't like to see kids come to visit because they run around the house, which upsets him. He doesn't like to be handled too much either, preferring mostly to be left alone. He's a quiet little loner who makes no fuss and is a good watch dog but he's not affectionate by nature and would rather just be left alone.

Jazzie is our first pet--our first Shih Tzu! Like Anonymous, ours is gentle and friendly. We have an 8 yr old and a 15 yr old and they both love him. We got him at 8 weeks old and he was easy to train and responds to his name. He only "growls" and stalks his "baby" (a stuffed dog toy) and although he is active (he has his own room with a baby gate), he responds to company and other children very well. We love Jazzie :0)

Why is it that this particular pooch is prone to have its hair styled? Is it simply because of the length?
