I've heard that there is a definite difference between a trainer and a behaviorist. I have been having difficulty with my dogs mostly with interactions with other dogs and when people coming to the door (over excitement). The problem is that when over-stimulated my JRT turns on my other dogs. I have not been able to control this behavior myself despite several attempts and so now need to hire a trainer/behavioralist. I've been told a behaviorist's techniques are much more long-lasting.

Based on the old-fashioned compulsion methods started by military trainers 40 years ago, Cesar's methods of dominating a dog into compliance are actually quite unenjoyable for our dogs. Modern motivational methods of balanced positive reinforcement with appropriate corrections teach a dog reliability and enjoyment from training.
And it's not really even about humane-ness. It's about effectiveness. There are more effective ways- easier, efficient too! Yes, pack structure is important -but is actually achieved by our human psychological advantage, not a choke collar. Anyone can go choke and scare a dog into submission. Don't be confused by the "calmness" part. Enjoyment and calmness go hand in hand. Fear can't fit into that equation. Cesar's mystical words of balance and energy can't stand against the scientific methods researched by animal behavior pioneers such as B.F. Skiner, Pavlov, Karen Pryor and Ian Dunbar. Think twice before "whispering" to your dog. Take a couple minutes to look up "operant and classical conditioning", "marker/clicker training", "animal learning theory". Then you'll begin to understand your dog's mind. Alison- Canine Command Trainer. www.caninecommand.com |

Known as horse whispering for Dogs, in Australia, check out the world's largest, most trusted, and most referred dog training company, Bark Busters Home Dog Training. What makes this company unique, is that they come to your come and train you how to work with your dog, in a way the dog understands. It's more training the people than the dog. They are world-wide, and offer a life of the dog guarantee. I've used them, they use humane pet-friendly methods, and turned my dog around in a matter of hours.

I groom, and have found that Cesar's way is really helpful to the dogs and their owners, not babing the dog, expecting him to behave and acting that way, DOES HELP

Owners need education, and dogs need structure--all dog trainers say so. But, I find Cesar very sad and scary to watch a lot of the time. Like the episode where the terrified German Shepherd tries to escape from him, but he chases it down, then, later he has the Mom in a wheel chair roll down an empty street with the dog on a tight choke chain. Some how, that is supposed to represent a cure---but the dog never had a problem with its family--it was strangers it was scared of--and there were no strangers on the street! Sure enough, since the owners now think the dog is cured, they take it out of the yard, and it bites a neighbor. Cesar comes back, and the dog is so freaked out it leaps across to bite him, and accidentally bites one of the little boys! What a mess, and sadly, a predictable mess. Cesar doesn't try to touch it, but has the little boys alpha roll the dog. But, the dog doesn't have a dominance problem with the boys! The dog is scared of strangers! Now, two little boys and a mom in a wheelchair have been encouraged to take a fearful German Shepherd onto the streets of LA, and then, when it tries to bite (as it will) to grab it by the neck. Yikes!~!

I have a german/pitbull mix that was left in front of a petco in camarillo in a trash can. He is the most hyper dog I have ever had. He's 16 months now and full of himself. After seeing the problems my dog had and also seeing it on tv I used Cesars methods on my dog. He doesn't jump out of the truck after skateboards, he does'nt chase after other dogs and he actually enjoys a bath now. He's definately not perfect, the door bell we are still working on and he's not the best walker because whenever I get on him he comes to me with effection and keeps pulling after we get going again, but this man is amazing and I think the fingers always point when you've come across something special. so I can't say enouogh about my relationship with my dog since I've been watching his show.

I saw Cesar for the 1st time recently and he was amazing. It is wonderful that he has a place for dogs that can't be rehabbed.
