Yesterday a pit bull jumped on top of our 6 ft. concrete block wall to get at our dogs. My son is a 6 ft. disabled vet that was standing by the wall. He grabbed it by the collar and twisted it to choke it down and used the other hand to hit its nose. We both screamied at the neighbors, who were in their yard and screaming and watching, to get their dog. They finally grabbed the tail and pulled it back. I yelled at the hounds to get in the house-and they reluctently went in. Today we bought $200 of fencing material at Home Depot to extend the height of the fence. We have an electronic fence to keep the hounds off the wall-home. We told the neighbors that we contain and control our dogs; they need to do the same. We told them that if their dog gets in our yard and a fight breaks out, that our hounds (70 lbs each) are bred to bring home 300 lb kitty cats-and they will tag team and they have 2 inch fangs and scars. Since building a fence protects our dogs and vet bills are so high, we decided to get started on a fence extension. We'd probably have to spend a long time to get them to pay their share-they're poor-but we have permission to be on their property, as the extension needs to be flush on their side of the wall, so the pit can't get a toe hold to get over. I hate this city-it's illegal to tie a dog up-it's illegal to extend the height of a fence- it takes 6 months getting approval from zoning, then building, sending out letters to every home-that includes apartments-and waiting to see if anybody dissaproves (3 months)-then if there aren't any complaints-you have to go to the community association for a vote. I went to one meeting, where the com ass. had voted "NO" , so they got an animal control officer to go with them and they took their 100 lb escape artist in a muzzle. That time the association approved and signed the papers. The parrish at the catholic church extended its fence to 10 ft. I hate this stupid city.
