Yata hae Huckleberry Finn
UPDATE: DECEMBER 2007: Huck is now 13 months old and was screened by his owner, Lorrie, on December 11 for Urban SAR with New Jersey Task Force One (NJ-TF 1). The screening process was almost 4 hours long and tested the dog for prey, hunt, and toy drive, nerve strength, aggression, agility, obedience, scent work and direction and control. Dogs have to be at least 1 year old for this screening. Huck scored 99 out of 100 points. What a testiment of intelligence and ability Huck is for the German Coolie breed. On top of this, Huck is making a hand at herding sheep. Continued good luck to both Huck and Lorrie from Huck's breeder - Yatahae German Coolies.
UPDATE: May 2007: Huck is only 6 months old now and is able to participate in very hard feats of extreme balance. He is excelling in every task that Lorrie is setting before him. We are very proud of both Lorrie and Huck.
UPDATE: January 30, 2007: "Seeker" is now officially, "Yata hae Huckleberry Finn", he's called "Huck" for short. Lorrie says he's amazing, bold, and is doing fantastic.
December 2006:
"Seeker" is a litter mate sibling to Jarrah and now belongs to the proud owner, Lorrie Clemmo. Seeker will be the first Texas bred German Coolie to be a member of the Search and Rescue team, with Lorrie. Lorrie's courageous SAR dog Blitz will be retiring soon and Lorrie is hoping Seeker will take his place among the ranks of SAR team dogs.
Lorrie Clemmo has been actively involved in Canine Search & Rescue (K9 SAR) for over 15 years, and has trained and handled trailing dogs, wilderness airscent dogs, urban search & rescue dogs, and cadaver dogs. Her K9 SAR career started with tracking and trailing dogs, utilizing both Bloodhounds and Bloodhound crosses. One of her original Bloodhounds was donated to the NJ Dept of the Corrections and went on to work many successful criminal trails. Her first airscent dog, "Claire" a Border Collie, went on to record multiple live and cadaver finds in the wilderness and at disaster searches. Her current airscent dog, "Blitz", also a Border Collie, is a FEMA certifed Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) Dog with New Jersey Task Force One (NJ-TF1). NJ-TF1 is a specialty team under the NJ State Police OEM trained to respond to man made and natural disasters. Lorrie and Blitz were deployed to the World Trade Center (WTC) on 09/11/01 making multiple recovery finds. Claire and Lorrie deployed afterwards to Freshkill Landfill in Staten Island. Recognizing the need for cadaver specialty canines, Lorrie currently certified, "Max", her Black Lab, exclusively in human remains detection. Max is one of two NJ state certified recovery canines.
Lorrie spent many years with Northeast Search & Rescue of Stroudsburg, PA serving as their canine coordinator for 6 years, helping to train wilderness airscent and cadaver dogs. She has responded to over 200 wilderness searches, and several major disasters including hurricanes Opal & Floyd, the WTC, and Freshkill Landfill rescue and recovery operations. She has also co-authored 3 Search & Rescue training programs (videos and manuals) that are sold world wide through the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR).
Lorrie is currently a Canine Search Specialist and the Canine Coordinator with NJ-TF1, working K9's "Blitz" and "Max". She also just recently obtained evaluator status for SUSAR (State Urban Search & Rescue Teams).
NJ-TF1 earned induction into the Animal Hall of Fame for their unselfish and courageous efforts during their search and rescue efforts during the WTC disaster. These animals fearlessly searched through burned debris, ignoring burnt paws, cuts and other obstacles to look for survivors and victims.
We are thrilled that Lorrie has chosen this outstanding puppy from our kennel to continue her important work.
"The Search and Rescue Dog Foundation"
A very, very special "THANK YOU" goes out to "The Search and Rescue Dog Foundation" of Barrington, New Jersey. The Foundation offers monetary grants to handlers whose SAR dogs are retiring, injured, or otherwise can no longer perform their duties as a Search & Rescue dog and are needing to purchase another dog. Lorrie Clemmo was able to purchase her new puppy through the most gracious monetary grant from The Foundation. The Search and Rescue Dog Foundation is a non-profit organization, therefore; any contributions are tax deductable. "ANY" donation would be graciously and thankfully accepted. Hello, I'm researching the Coolie breed (if it is an actual breed) and trying to find out some information on the breed, because I'm looking for a dog breed that doesn't have millions of health problems. And can you tell me why some are called Coolies that have a 5+ generation, but then some are also called a Coolie when they are a cross? Are you a breeder? Can you tell me how your Coolie gets along with other dogs, cats, kids, adults, or other animals? Are they easy or hard to train? Are they normally hard headed or soft? Are they intense or clowns? I keep asking breeders, but none are willing to help me.
Thanks in advance!
Do you find this valuable?

Thanks so much for the new photos and the update on Huck! I really look forward to hearing about this tiny hero that has such a big future ahead. Have to say, he doesn't quite look that tiny anymore! Keep it coming!

Hey Yatahae! Long time, no hear! You still out there? Been looking to hear more about the SAR dogs that we talked about...I finally started a few pages on Dog Jobs and a page for SAR, with Huck's photo in there. It's quite basic right now, but I have high hopes that you'll jump in and add away! I would love to see more about Lorrie's dogs and her org... Any chance you have some time to jump on in?
Hope all is well! DG |

Just saw that Seeker has a new name...do you want me to change the name of this page, or leave it as "Seeker"?

I just visited Jarrah's page. I have to tell you, these are the prettiest puppies that i've ever seen. This breed has some unique colors and their eye color is just beautiful. Thank you for the work you do with the Search & Rescue, that is so commendable for you to give up your time for such a worthy cause. I'll be sending a donation to the Foundation. |
