Zeva's Diary 2009 |

Version 6 - view current page

Zeva was discovered in the Farmington Daily Times, as the Wednesday "Pet of the Week". It was the Spring 2006 and a few weeks after our beloved Chance passed on after 12+ years of a happy life in our home. He was at least 13 years old and had lived with me longer than my husband.

Max was extremely stressed after Chance's passing, and had been exhibiting new behaviors such as chewing carpet and pooping and peeing, even though he was house broken. My husband, aka the big guy or BG, said that another dog as a companion, would be good for him. Max was not quite a year old, at the time.

I read the paper, called to see if "Daisy" was still available and then called the BG. He met me at the City Pound, after work, an hour till closing. Daisy seemed to know we were there to see HER! Every time we walked away, she would bark at us. I asked the pound people if she was in heat, and they said that they didn't know. I KNEW! DOUBLE DUH!!!!!!!! We asked how long it would be before she was euthanized, and the Pound person said "Tomorrow!!!!!! They took her to the private room, where we could meet outside the kennel. Zeva was very friendly, untrained, but allowed all areas of her body to be checked. She had some scabs, and good teeth and a big true smile, as you can see! We took her home that night, gave her a quick bath and made the vet appointment to get her spayed.

We introduced her to Max, and all went well! She was definitely an alpha dog and was no "daisy". We named her "Zeva", after the Charcter on NCIS, as she portrays a dominant female, also.

Zeva had a problem, which became aparent that night. She did not know how to get what she wanted, and when she wanted something, she would get agressive with Max, who wouldn't put up with it.

This took 2 to 3 months to eliminate this behavior. In the meantime, Max and Zeva became friends. She is definitely the BG's dog. She looks somewhat like a Native American Indian Dog, but has what we call a "Stress Hawk"! The hair on her scalp stands up strait when she is stressed. This happens less now. She also has long fronds of hair that feather from her straight up ears. They cast fantastic shadows in the dim light. She is also thye smartest of our 3 dogs and the easiest trained.

She needs raw hides to chew on every day so that she does not chew on max or get grumpy.
