Name: My buddy’s full name is “Zoeylyn, Pug of Ra”. The kids chose this name because at the time, they were really into the kids game, Yu-Gi-Oh, and everything was “of Ra” for a while. Anyhow, she mostly just goes by “Zoey” or “Pug”.
Breed: Zoey is a pug. Don’t you love the sound of that word?
Born: Our little puggy was born on March 7, 2004 in Washington. We got her from a breeder named Wanda Ball, who is one of the biggest pug lovers I’ve ever met. I searched for the perfect dog for about three years and talked to numerous breeders. I spoke with Wanda several times by phone and she just seemed like a caring person who was a true pug lover at heart. So, we got on her list for her next litter, and several months later, Zoey was born with one sister. We first got to visit Zoey, her sister, and her Mom, Misty when Zoey was 4 weeks old. She was the smaller of the two sibs, and the lighter in color. She was a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e! It was love at first sight. The really cool thing was that I fell in love with Zoey’s mom right away and would’ve happily made off with her. Now, two years later, I have the spitting image of Zoey’s mom!
About her owners: Zoey lives in a family of five. She has three kids, ages 7, 9 and 11—boy, girl, boy. We live in the suburbs of Seattle, on the Eastside. We have a big house and a big fenced yard…lots of different places for our little puggy to nap.
Why Fido: After scouring the planet for the perfect dog for our family, reading everything we could get our hands on, talking to all sorts of dog owners, plotting out the pros and cons of different breeds and different sizes, the kids and I just couldn’t resist the smashed pug face! The breed temperament is docile, friendly and loving—perfect for small children. They don’t take a lot of exercise and are very fixated on “their people” and food. Pugs are small—Zoey is incredibly small…she’s barely 12 pounds full grown, and most of it is fur! I actually think most people would call her a “teacup”, although this wasn’t on purpose.
What Fido likes: Zoey loves the entire family, but I’m definitely “her person”. She follows me around the house all day long, and just looks at me. That’s her job, and she’s happy to do it! If there’s an open lap, she’s on it She loves to walk, but not when it’s too hot or too cold, and she loves a good nap!
