  • Koolie Hello, I've been researching this breed and like it very much. Something that I don't understand is why they call it "Koolie" when the dogs are of mixed breed origin. If the dog is Border Collie and Australian Cattle Dog, or Kelpie and Border Collie, mixed with the Koolie, how is it a full blood Koolie? Is this what a Koolie is, just really a mix of Australian Cattle Dog, Border Collie and Kelpie?

"l know this question has been answered somewhere but is the Koolie related to the Collie? l cant seem to find anything about this."
    Hello
If you would like to visit the Koolie club of Australia's web site you can read all about the possible foundation influences, including the German Tiger and the Collie.
Research continues so what you read is not the total portrait of the Australian Koolie/Coolie

  • This is confusing I'm trying to follow the History but the grammer is so bad I am unable to make sense of it. There seems to be alot of retracting and counter-tracking and confusion between the History and the first page of these dogs. If they aren't Collies, then why DNA test for all the Collie diseases? That seems like a waste of members money, time and effort + it gives them a false sense of security thinking their dogs are disease free. If they aren't Collies then testing for Collie diseases does no good. I did look up the breed on the Australian Shepherd Club of America site and the breed is known as German Coolie --- yet, it says here they are known as the Australian Koolie by ASCA. Just from reading all the posts all this fighting back and forth has kept me from wanting to even consider this breed or even joining this club, even though I find it intriguing.

  • First Fleet Arrival "It is because they know that Tjukurpa has and is doing the wrong thing." The interesting thing about that comment is that those making those accusations are doing no different and by who's rules or laws are they wrong? Elsewhere it has been pointed out quite clearly it is not ilegal for pounds to release non desexed dogs, there is certainly no law stating they can't be bred from, so it seems it is merely attitudes that people are trying to impose nothing more.
'Today there is no excuse for not sourcing long time breeders', the acusations are about dogs that were supposedly bred from 6 years ago, when as far as the register was concerned, no one had any more verifiable records.
'You are more or less condoning the use of dogs aquired from pounds ' What I am saying is that throughout the decades dogs have been used that had no verifiable history, because a dog has been misfortunate enough to enter a pound and profoundly lucky to get out with it's life doesn't mean it can not be a good example of the breed or an excellent working dog. There are many cases of just that.
"As for the history of the kelpie, the first breedings were recorded. Maybe you should research such things a little more" Unlike others posting here I don't breed mutiple breeds or claim any great knowledge of them all, frankly I'm not that interested in kelpies, but I know there is a lot of folklore involved in their heritage.
"Does that make her important? l dont think so. " Then why the carry on? She must be important or else why the repeated "attacks"? Perhaps jealousy is the reason, what is that old saying, any publicity is good publicity.

One question, do you agree the Koolie is an Australian breed? Oh, one more question, don't you find it a bit far fetched to say that koolies are descended from dogs arriving with the First Fleet? That would make them older than the kelpie.

  • Assistance please Hello:
Don't mean to cause a fuss, but it does seem to happen regularly, I don't instigated it, if just follows me.
You may understand if you are aware of the struggle between the Australian Koolie page information contributed the club and the German Coolie page contribution by their group. This is about one breed but a second group namely the German Coolie group with other ideas.
    That's fine.
I ask for your assistance with a page regarding Grizzly, you will find it under Australian Koolie search.
This page was put up to display the disgruntled opinion of a past buyer regarding the purchase of Grizzly from Tjukurpa kennels, my Kennels.
I responded by display photos as she had of the same Koolie which she called Spike.
She claimed the Koolie was aggressive, I proved he was not.
If you look at the history you will see that I do substantiate my claim and provide and an updated account of Spikes assessment and his rehoming.
I returned today to continue my article and to respond to a second disgruntled past buyer, who has also seen fit to post her views.(I have only had two disgruntled buyers ever)
If it is allowed that anyone can post anything with only here say, then I should be allowed to respond.
Unfortunately this is not the case a member of the group Ruth Stevens under the name truthwillout has seen fit to remove the entire piece, but only the favorable comments.
One can only guess at her motivation for this, I am not sure how to replace the original article, nor what guarantee it will stay there if I do.
I would love to Moderate but that would unfortunately cause Wikifido more stress than you need.
You are doing a wonderful job and I just love your inspiration.
I do hope you can help.
