dog food
Well my dogs are in perfect health-very active-they get fruit from the trees along with the Purina. Lots of people can't afford high priced specialty foods-one dog lived until he was 18-then he had a stroke-poor thing-our cats lived to about 15-18 on Purina. Our vet bills have only been from dogs being dogs- or cats being cats. I'll take that back-Missy had a severe reaction to some expensive-vet recommended flea med-Stonewall was okay with it-but I prefer to care for my dogs more inexpensively-like in the 1970s or earlier. By the way-my horses also lived to a nice ripe old age eating Purina-There isn't any reason for a person to think that they are a bad dog owner because they don't go into natural and holistic stuff or can't afford it-I've had it out with my vet about that and she could see that old fashioned stuff works pretty darn good. If you're worried-add some raw eggs to the diet-by the way-unflavored yogurt is pro whatever and it's a lot cheaper to add a tablespoon to the dog food every day-I started giving Missy that when she was sick from the stupid flea meds-The vet staff told me that I couldn't do that without the vet's permission. The vet came in and apologized. Dogs and cats are lucky to have homes and regular meals in this economy. We had an abused pit bull with arthuritis from broken bones. Had to control her weight-she ate Purina weightcontrol for over 10 years-always had a shiney coat and had regular health care-shots and license-I've heard people say the big problem is trying to make dogs like humans-this is probably one sign of that-

What to feed?
Well, I feed my hounds Campbell chicken soup when they're down. It's the only way to get Stonewall to eat powdered meds. A diet of chicken soup wouldn't be good-Is there any particular reason for doing this? I shy away from doing something like using chicken soup or whatever daily on a dog. It should be a treat to help get meds into the dog. If the dog has it all of the time-then the dog will stick it's nose up at it and you'll have problems and extra medical expenses. I believe that dry dog food is the best for many reasons. #1 Fiber, #2 less expensive #3 less chance of being poisoned by China-which happened last year #4 Think about how your dog would fare if it got lost and ended up in a shelter of any type-god forbid that you die-but with mourning you, the dog would have to adapt to regular dog food and might become ill or unadoptable because of its eating habits that you created. #5 If you watch the "Dog Whisperer" or "it's the Me or the Dog", you'll notice that many of the problem dogs have special meals-and it starts when the dogs are puppies- if you give it a special treat/meal now- you can't use the special meal/treat to coax it to eat when ill-then how can you tell if your dog is sick or just plain spoiled? If your dog isn't eating well-take it to the vet-check on how much it should be eating and make sure that it doesn't have health problems. Stonewall and Missy sleep on my bed with me-which some people don't like. I tried different dry dog foods until I found something they liked. Don't change food quickly- start mixing the new brand or flavor with the old stuff and gradually switch to the new food- less stomach upset like passing gas. I hope that you take your dog to a trainer to help keep it from being a demon. Remember that a dog is a dog-they have special needs/different from our physical and emotional needs- You wouldn't feed a horse dog food-

Santa Monica Kennels
I used Santa Monica Kennels to train my (2) dogs. I was extremely happy w/their training, so much so that I have referred several friends. One of whom has her dogs in training w/them now & she is as equally satisfied as I am. I will encourage her to post on this site. I wanted to respond to the person whom posted the not so nice review on Nov 2. As far as Potty training. It frustrates me when people expect their dogs to hold it for hours & hours.Your animal is a living breathing thing. Do you go a 8, 10, 12 hour work day & not relieve yourself? Are you following the guidelines given to you w/your training? It is the owners responsibility to work w/your dog everyday. And if you read your contract Potty
training/housebreaking is not guaranteed, why should it be-each dog is different. It also states on your contract that if you are having problems to call them & they will help you w/your needs. Have you called them & asked for help? I can personally state that if you follow the training guidelines given to you when your dog graduates then you won't have a problem. I am delighted w/the training my dogs rcvd & will continue to recommend them highly to others. I've also used their boarding facility. It is a boutique experience that provides individual attention to your dog. They are continuously walked & even get play times. The staff is loving & caring & does a excellent job in giving them each extra attention. They have only been acommodating to me & my dogs needs. My dogs are always happy to arrive & happy when I pick them up. Everything is incld in their stay. They provide bedding, toys, treats, & food but you are also free to bring your own. They even get a complementary Spa day upon pick up (bath, blowdrying, brushing, ear cleaning, & nail clipping). They use only the best food-Canidae. A holistic, human grade all natural food. I suggust calling ahead & making reservations as they are very popular. Visit their website @ santamonicakennels.com Its a great place!!!!!

my forever friend
How long have you had him? It took my hounds and the pit about 4 months for their stomachs to get used to regular feedings and dog food -gas-diarherria- You have a plus in him being already trained-since the hounds were wild- they tried to drag me into big bushes everytime they heard a vehicle approach. I didn't have to drag them-but teach them to stay close to me-at the time-they wouldn't take treats-They just wanted to make me happy and they learned. I walked only one at a time-I'm not that stupid. I had to put one outside-and teach the other to walk in the house because they were so wound up-then out in the back yard- then in the front-
