I got my chi X rat in Canada
I have a toy rat terrier I got from Canada 6 yrs ago. They are a recognized breed there. When I brought him home and showed him around, nobody had heard of the breed, but since he is now officially American, I guess he is a cross, designer, hybrid, what have you. Regardless, he is adorable, just like your babies. Although he has attached himself to my husband, he still knows I'm mom. He is intelligent and alert, but a major couch potato! He plays "shy " to get a belly scratch and we swear he understands english because he knows when we say things like bath, walk, treat, lets go to bed, just about any thing we casually repeat in day to day life! Just adorable!

New List of Popular Breeds for 2006
Here's an interesting Top Breeds Link
Dog Breed Facts
http://www.dog-breed-facts.com/dog-grooming.html
Top 10 Toy Dog Breeds
The Toy Group includes most of the very small and miniature lap dogs and apartment-sized companion dog breeds. Toy dogs play a critical role in the lives of people that live alone and their presence can have beneficial effects on the health of the sick, the elderly and the housebound. Toys are popular companion dogs for people living in cities and adapt well to apartment life.
Top 10 Terrier Dog Breeds
The Terrier Group includes those small but lively terrier breeds that were developed (mainly in Great Britain) to hunt small burrowing animals such as badgers, foxes, otters, rabbits and rats.
Top 10 Hound Dog Breeds
The Hound Group includes dog breeds with a wonderful sense of smell and/or great athleticism. These breeds were developed to follow game either by sight or by smell.
Top 10 Sporting Dog Breeds
The Sporting Group includes pointers, setters, retrievers and many spaniels. This group of fairly active dogs is composed of a wide variety of breeds, which were developed to aid hunters by finding, flushing out and retrieving game. Members of this group all need a fair amount of exercise but you don’t have to be a hunter to own one of these dogs.

Toddlers
Not a good mix! One or more toddlers is not a good mix. You should segregate your dog from toddlers.
Yorke's or any Terrier are not a breed to have with small children. They seldom bite but sound ferocious with their growl. It's not your Yorke's fault terriers are working dogs and are used for controlling rodents, snakes, ****'s, armadillo's etc. They have a natural tough guy attitude and act like big dogs trapped in a small body. I had Jack Russell Terriers given back to me several years after purchase when owners moved forward with family and found the same problem. From Petshopman: Little dogs and little kids need boundaries between each other until the child has the sense not to end up in a compromising position. For 17 years every time I stuck my face in my dogs face until the day he died he growled at me. It was his nature and I respected it. He never snapped at me just growled to be the tough little terrier. Good luck! From meyati: little terriers were kept on British ships to control rats. In the naval battle for Singapore-Malaysia- between the British and the Japanese in 1942. I know that one severely wounded terrier went to the ship's hospital and fought the rats that were attracted to the blood of the wounded sailors. The little terrier was awarded the Victoria Cross.
