Urgently need help with my dog
I recently went through a brutal separation that uprooted my life, started online stores & was doing Craft Shows. All was looking promising & along came Tropical Storm Debby. I was one of the most critical flood cases. I lost home, possessions, inventory, income & more. Then along came Hurricane Isaac that also impacted me. I now received a call that my mom in her 90’s took a drastic decline & w/the help of a friend was able to make the trip north. I drove 26 hours to be with mom.
My daughter & her husband were working out the logistics to have me move in w/them. To our surprise we were informed by their landlord that my dog could not be in the building. I will not abandon my precious dog as she is all that I have left in life & what has kept me going. She has been with me through all my tears & has been a joy in my life…she is part of my fibers.
Kenya is a small approx. 55 lb 10 yr old West Shepherd, is not a barker, is low key & easy to tend. She is well behaved, obedience trained, house broken & has never had an accident in the house. She is very loving, grew up w/cats, loves people, children & other pets. She is neutered, current on all shots & vaccinations, gets monthly flea treatment etc Photos of Kenya and information http://www.rover.com/pets/dogs/kenya-26705/ I need someone to take her in for a long term period of time or share the time w/someone else, She is easy to care for & everyone who meets her falls in love w/her. My daughter & I would like to be able to visit her & walk her when possible & convenient for whoever graciously could take her in.
I would pay for food, vet care if needed, & help in whatever capacity. Without this help I will be homeless. It is breaking my heart to be separated from her and I do not intend to give her up. But I desperately need help. I can be contacted at frogandhummingbirdco@yahoo.com

Mindy & Mia - Partners in Pampering - Unique TLC for Humans
I have spent the better part of this year taking care of a loved one who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. My teacup chihuahua, "Mia"tagged along with me each day as part of the caregiving process. She immediately bonded with his cat, and added daily smiles and chuckles that broke up his usual routine. My daughter gave her to me last year as an early Christmas gift from a breeder in Idaho. Mia was only 8 weeks old and could fit in the palm of my hand. She just turned one year old this month, but still remains quite small...she only weighs 3 lbs. I never would have thought I'd be the type to own a lap dog, but here I am with the most wonderful animal on the planet. She's been house-trained and paper trained for over six months, and she's very obedient, not to mention lovable. Mia goes everywhere with me, and dresses up for every occasion. (she has over 30 outfits)
When my loved one entered a Hospice facility in July, Mia was invited to visit him daily. In the process, I couldn't make it down the hall to his room without relatives of other patients begging me to bring Mia in to see their loved one. Thus, an idea was born, and I have now started my own business. "Mindy & Mia, Partners in Pampering" - Unique TLC for Humans. Mia and I are due tol become official Hospice Volunteers as soon as we complete our certification.
Everyone at Hospice was so great when my loved one was there, that I really wanted to give something back. I was laid off from position as Head Writer for a multimedia firm last October, and have not been able to obtain a position in my field of expertise since. I am excited to embark on this new adventure with Mia. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would give up a career in writing to work with a chihuahua, but the rewards have been absolutely priceless.

public water bowls?
Often, after going to dog parks, Indy develops a dog cold - goopy eyes, sniffles, and a cough. I've been letting him drink from the public water bowls, but someone suggested that this could be the source of his ailments. Should I avoid water bowls that serve hordes of canines? Are they really just cesspools of dog disease?

tumor near his spleen
Dear Kelly,I was so sorry to hear about x's tumor. Just 5mos. ago we had to put our golden Taylor down, she too had tumors on her spleen. She had just turned 14,we had very few symptoms, and being a nurse I keep going over it in my mind, did I miss something??? I believe it was hemangiosarcoma a very agressive cancer in goldens and didn't know anything could be so common until I read the blog on wiki fido!!! My first sign of trouble was taylor didn't want to eat, even roast beef and she was a bit more tired than usual. In the previous days we played went for our walks and her appetite was fine. Her belly was a tiny bit distended and as I watched her,I could see it was tender. My daughter took her to the vets and an ultrasound found two small tumors one on each side of her spleen. Our vet during her exam removed 3 syringes of frank blood from her abdomen. My 11yr old daughter was with me....there were signs of liver involvement on the ultrasound. Taylor was bright eyed and tail waggging when we came back to hear the ultrasound results. We were so not ready to hear Taylor's prognosis, this is an unmerciful cancer that spreads like wildfire...it's so unfair....and two days before Christmas. We have 3 goldens, they are like my children and my daughter's siblings but I know I don't have to tell you that,or anyone who has owned a golden. We decided to put Taylor down rather than wait for the day she bled out, becoming short of breath and in severe pain. My daughter Jenn and I layed with her...stroked her gently and spoke softly of all our happy days...we told her we'd meet again at the rainbow bridge. It was by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do....she didn't want to leave us....the vet had to administer an additional dose of med....I saw the look of surprise on his face when he checked on us and Taylor was still with us..we layed with her ,after a few mins.she was at peace.I hope this has helped you some. Is it urine or something else with an older dog?
Hi there,
I have a customer who has two older dogs. She keeps the dogs in the outside pool bath most of the time where they mostly lay around and sleep. Because it is Florida summertime I know the dogs probably do get quit hot in this room however there is a pretty good cross breeze. My client called me the other night asking about her dog leaving wet spots on his doggy bed. At first she thought it might be urine but says there is no odor associated with this wet spot. and thought it could be from the dog sweating (I always thought dogs panted and did not sweat when they are hot) She asked me what else it might be. I did refer her to a local vet but just wondering if anyone has heard of this and had any idea what the wet spot on the dog's bed might be (it is not blood either). Thanks so much. Jennifer

Two Paws Up Review of New Book Fit As Fido
Check out Dogtipper.com for a book review of the new book, Fit As Fido: Follow Your Dog to Better Health, posted at www.dogtipper.com/products/2009/06/fit-as-fido-by-dawn-marcus-md.html.
Here's a snippet of the review: "When we first picked up Fit as Fido, a book by neurologist and professor Dawn A. Marcus, we were a little worried...would this guide be too fitness-oriented for two middle-aged writers to keep up with? Or maybe too scientific for us to comprehend?
We need not have worried. This 127-page book is a fun, easy-to-follow book that provides suggestions on, as its subtitle says, ways you can follow your dog's lead to better health. The author, who is a consultant for Del Monte's "Power of Paws" program, has broken down some of the best habits of the canine world--from exercise to attitudes--and used them as examples for ways humans can adjust to lead happier, healthier lives."

www.doggiedesires.com - the latest stuff for your dog.
Why aren't there cool sites out there that will give you tips on training your dog without having to pay for it? I want to watch video's and teach my dog myself. I also wanted a place where I could find out the breed of celebrity dogs (not going to lie to you, I really liked Mischa Barton's dog but couldn't find the breed!)
Also, I want to know about the latest stuff for dog......I finally found the site! www.doggiedesires.com

Chiweenie Health
Chiweenies are very cute little dogs, but because of the Daschund in them, they are prone to have back problems, especially if they are long. You may think that your chiweenie being overweight is o.k. but it really puts strain and pressure on the dog's back. This can lead to back problems, such as a curveture of your chiweenie's spine, and other awful problems. Make sure your chiweenie has a healthy diet and eats only as much as it needs. Limit treats to once a week so that your dog does not become overweight. Remember: Obesity in chiweenies WILL HURT THEIR SPINE!!!!

Older dog sleeping a lot more
I adopted a senior Golden/Cocker mix two years ago. She's 13 now and lately has been sleeping more deeply. She used to bounce into the air happily when she would hear me come into the room. But now I actually have to gently shake her to wake her up. Her health hasn't changed in any other way but I worry that one time I'll try to rouse her and she won't wake up at all. This is deep, deep sleep normal for an older dog?
