I read lots of websites and lots of people are calling dogs that are Border Collie/Kelpie a Coolie. Some call Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Coolies. Then some call dogs they have rescued Coolies! So, what exactly IS a Coolie?
Why do you call your dogs Coolies when I've read that they are Border Collie crossed? How can that be a Coolie? Then I read one person's website, Royalla - something like that, and her bloodlines are posted and the dogs are Border Collie, Kelpie, Australian Cattle Dogs, and unknown, but yet they are called Koolies?

Hello, I'm researching the Coolie breed (if it is an actual breed) and trying to find out some information on the breed, because I'm looking for a dog breed that doesn't have millions of health problems. And can you tell me why some are called Coolies that have a 5+ generation, but then some are also called a Coolie when they are a cross? Are you a breeder? Can you tell me how your Coolie gets along with other dogs, cats, kids, adults, or other animals? Are they easy or hard to train? Are they normally hard headed or soft? Are they intense or clowns? I keep asking breeders, but none are willing to help me.
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I had to tell you guys about the best investment I've ever made in bathing my dog... the elevated doggie bath!!! You get to bathe the dog at your level, there's a leash restraint so they can't get out, nonstick pad (no slipping), drainage, a nice fan nozzle, shampoo holder... it's awesome. Totally saves your back since there's no more bending over! They even have a shower product that hooks up to your washer to give your dog a warm water bath. I bought both and I can't rave about them enough. Anyway the website is http://www.boosterbath.com. Just thought I'd share :)

I am a "show" Kelpie owner and have done a lot of research in the area of the breed. Some of you may recall a website I had posted a few years ago called Australian Kelpie Outpost. What I am about to say may irritate some of you, so be forewarned. If you look at the earliest known photographs of the Kelpie breed, they appear as the "show Kelpie" and not the working kelpie line. I think many have the history reversed. The working Kelpies continue to look less and less like the original early Kelpies in the earliest historical records and to me personally, look nothing like the original early kelpie. They are not built the same, the breech is different, the face and ears are different. I have looked at many breeder pages (primarily in Australia), and the show kelpie is fading from the lines which to me is alarming. The working kelpies, I am sure, are great animals and are great herders, but don't discount the "show" kelpie as not capable of being a working dog, too. My dog was never trained to herd, but did it instinctively when I visited a friend's ranch in South Texas. I hate to see what I consider to be the best companion breed and one of the most intelligent breeds (what you call the show Kelpie" ) to be vanishing from the planet and breeding programs.

Even non-dog people will like this: Ever wondered what it'd be like if a dog threw a dinner party? The only way to find out is to read The Dinner Party, which we highly recommend if you need a jolt of levity, or other distraction.
