How to find a reliable breeder?
Jan 30 2008, 7:26 PM EST I am interested in adopting a maltipoo in about 3 months. I am doing preliminary research and can't seem to find any breeders in CT or in surrounding states. Does anyone have any information about breeders in New England? How can I tell if a breeder that is willing to ship to CT is actually a reputable breeder (besides the obvious--offering vet checks, health guarantees, and pedigrees?) Has anyone else encountered this problem? Tori, CT 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: How to find a reliable breeder?
Feb 1 2008, 2:51 PM EST Try to find someone who does maltipoo rescue. Although they would have a long waiting list for cute little dogs like that, they're the people who will know who the good and bad breeders are. Just because breeders are listed on a maltipoo club website doesn't mean they're reputable. Usually breeders get listed if they pay the fee and it has nothing to do with their breeding practices. RE: How to find a reliable breeder?
Feb 1 2008, 2:56 PM EST Tori, another thought on this. Why buy a mixed breed? It takes many, many generations that the new "designer" breeds don't have under their belts to create any breeding consistency. If you get a Maltese or a Poodle you can be pretty sure what you're getting physically and temperamentally, but when you start crossing them, you basically have a cute little mutt that you've paid dearly for but whose genetic outcome is anybody's guess. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: How to find a reliable breeder?
Feb 28 2008, 12:30 PM EST Tori, we have 2 little boy Maltipoos. One is a year old, the other 7 months. We live in Upstate NY and had a very hard time finding a good breeder on the East Coast. We finally found a lady who raises them who lives in Auburn, NY. Our little boys are beautiful, healthy and a joy to come home to. I love our Maltipoos. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

Has anyone else encountered this problem?I just bought a maltipoo from a breeder in Nebraska. He's great! He was flown to us because I also live in CT and couldn't find a more local breeder. The closest breeder I found lives in upperstate NY. The drive from central CT would be about 5 hours. Her litter won't be ready to go until August. (We wanted our pup earlier in the summer because my husband and I have some time off from work in July and the first couple of weeks in August). If I remember correctly, the breeder lives on a farm called Lilac Farm...or something like that. Try googling maltipoo breeders in NY. I hope you find her. Do you find this valuable? |
