Hello, I've been researching this breed and like it very much. Something that I don't understand is why they call it "Koolie" when the dogs are of mixed breed origin. If the dog is Border Collie and Australian Cattle Dog, or Kelpie and Border Collie, mixed with the Koolie, how is it a full blood Koolie? Is this what a Koolie is, just really a mix of Australian Cattle Dog, Border Collie and Kelpie?

The Koolie breed has only recently been recognised as an actual breed in the last few years and because the breed dates to about Gold Rush days (or before) there isn't much known about the breed in general except by those who own them. They are very similar to the German koolie in appearance and temperament, with slight differences most people would have trouble distinguishing, the koolie breed itself may have a mixed breed origin but I'm willing to bet just about every dog breed known to man has had mixed origins at some point in their history.

It is believed that the Koolie breed in Australia is German Collie cross Kelpie making it part of the collie family but some have also said it has german Sheperd features as well.

I'd be willing to answer any other questions I can.
