my poor daschund.

my minature daschund of 5 years was a ball of energy and life. last week he woke my house up by crying out in pain and wincing in agony. when i tried to comfort him he lunged out at me "something he has never done!" so i knew something was really wrong. i took him to the veet and x rays yielded nothing. a few days later the same thing happened, but after about 5 minutes he seemed fine. these agonizing episodes seem to be happening more frequently, they are agonizing for the little guy for the obvious pain but more agonizing for the family beacuse we cant help him. does any one know what i can do, or know what is going on 2  out of 3 found this valuable. We have 2 Mini Daschunds.. the younger of the two is usually really hyper and happy but one evening she just started acting weird. I tried to pick her up and she cried and yelped until I got her on the couch. The next day I took her to the vet and they said that because of their length it is hard for them to go to the bathroom enough and sometimes it gets backed up. They cleared her out and gave her some medicine. I know that it isn't the best thing to think about dealing with but maybe that with give you another option to look for.. hope it helps and your baby is ok 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Firstly, disclaimer: I am not a vet. I am an owner of several dogs who has made over the years several trips to the vet. Experience has taught me that acute pain like the type you're describing in your daschund is one of two things: back or G.I. A good diagnostic vet is invaluable - apparently your vet isn't coming up with solutions and I know how distressing this can be.. If you're in the Los Angeles area do you have friends that have a GREAT diagnostic vet? I have one in SD, but that's pretty far from you. If back, she should be put on muscle relaxants and pain pills so that she can begin to heal - no stairs. If GI, then they'll probably do Pepcid 10 mg, twice daily OR there are other additional GI medications in addition dependent upon the GI problem.
