RE: Spayed females seeming to be in heat

Does anybody know why spayed females seem to come in heat, have difinate cycles and hump neutered males? It's not just in my local area. I saw some episodes of the "Dog Whisper", where owners of spayed females asked about spayed females humping male dogs, even neutered males. I've asked vets about this, because I had a female with this behavoir. The vets seem embarrassed, think and said that maybe some of the ovary tissue was accidently left in the dog. I asked if vets were leaving the ovaries in now. I didn't have this type of behavior back in the dark ages. The particular episode that I remember had a family that wanted to get a new female boxer for a an old neutered boxer that lost his "comapnion". They had brought in several females and he became aggressive. Cesar Milan had them meet on neutral territory and after several visits, the spayed female began humping the old boxer. The family asked if she was really spayed. Cesar Milan got the same look as the vets here and then finally said that they just do it and the dogs are getting along and he has a friend.
Right now I have a spayed female acting like she's in heat. She's backing up to people and rubbing her rear on their legs. She humps the male. The vet said that she had never been in heat, as the blood vessels to the uterous were small, etc. We took her to a new vet, because of this behavior in spayed females. A family with a single dog wouldn't be noticing this behavior. They'd probably think that the female is being friendly. We have a spayed male that's become protective of her and is putting up with her restlessness. I've seen male dogs that were neutered when they were older trying to mate with spayed females when the female seemed to be in. The female didn't want to go that far, so when she got tired of him, she'd snap at him and get aggressive. One of the reasons to spay is ovararian cancer. I don't get it. Thank you
