That is short...from what I know, bigger dogs tend to have shorter life spans and smaller dogs have longer life spans... I'm not sure if a Rottweiler's life span is any shorter than any other big dog, though...anybody else know?

Not really that much shorter - I have known 14 year old Rottweilers. I think the average age is lowered by the high incidence of cancers in the breed - some of this is due to poor breeding of unhealthy or short-lived stock.

We had a pure bred rottie who was an awesome family pet...totalle loveable, great with kids yet extremely protective. She lived to almost 14, and yes, she died of cancer.

We had a female Rottweiler, Nina, who lived to be 13 1/2 yrs old. We got her at age 2. She'd already been spayed & had never had puppies, but "mothered" everything from baby goats, kittens & even loved our guinea pig.
