How to respond and have a discussion
Jan 29 2009, 10:33 AM EST | Post edited: Jan 29 2009, 10:33 AM EST
Many people see a post and respond by creating a new post-so nobody knows what they are talking about because the connection to the original comment is lost. When you read a post and have an opinion, click on either quote & reply or reply that's directly below the comment/post-that way we know what you're talking about and hopefully this will lead us into some discussions with different opinions. This would make the"Discussion Forum" more interesting and satisfying. Your name will still be on this main page, but we can read all of the comments about the regular post. I know that everybody knows how to do this, but for some reason members aren't replying. Do you find this valuable?

i work on the computer, so I rarely comment unless I have something relevant to say. Too much like work. As a new member to Wikifido, I am mostly here for curiosity's sake. But like Facebook and other social networking sites, sites like these can be too time consuming for me. But I did like reading the thread about lack of interaction on the site. But rather than tossing people off in a pet, so to speak, maybe there's a way to draw more interactive people to it and wake up the slackards. Do you find this valuable?

And, by the way, I did try to figure out how to reply to that other thread and could not find a reply button. That may have something to do with it. Do you find this valuable?

If there isn't a reply app-it means that it's closed for some reason or the other, like to get people starting their own posts & threads. The administrator is trying to find out how many moderators are still active-the home page was remodeled this week. Some members have come up with killer ideas & I haven't been shy in forwarding actual plans & sources to the creator, administrator & other moderators with full credit given to the proper member. I think that the powers that be did a wonderful job-I've personally sent private messages to people with empty albums with offers of help and posted a public thread-but haven't received a reply. Believe me-there's a lot more going on in the electronic world than facebook, myspace, twitter-there are regional blogs that get quite hot-distance learning classes on a variety of subjects-political blogs like <The league of pissed-off voters>, etc. I've been class secretary in many classes-where i had to compile the work of my classmates & publish an eMagazine 2x a month-with a CD & hard copy backup to the prof & the department. I did this in English & Spanish. When contacting some people-I notice that there hasn't been any activity since the month they joined-so I try to contact new members and make a personal welcome & offer help- Some reply-some don't-
I do know what it's like to wake up and find several 100 Email notifications from sites-then a few more from publishers, scholarly societies, and then needing to check my sites for personal updates on readings, etc. I taught too-so i had to check the input from my students-make notes for private conservations-incorporate into lessons. Most people are active in many of these things-but they learn to read quickly-competently & go hiking or something to reduce stress.

I don't mean to be nosey-but I often check profiles before I reply. I was intrigued by your distinctive art style & checked out your danger dog site & it's beautiful art. and connection to Nepal. I try to help-and computer logic misses some human connections. There isn't any sense in telling some one to do something, if they already tried it or others have already told them to do it. We have ill members that inherit very active dogs from deceased friends or family. I give them links for games. They can sit in a chair & throw something into the other room for the dog to fetch. I try to connect them to sites with tips & videos for this problem. We have young teens & preteens that are told to get rid of the dog-they are so scared of Internet predators that they won't say if they live in the USA. . The young member needs to be talked down from this fear to say some thing like the Boston or Seattle area & help the young member & parent to get in touch with a rescue group, or a member in that area will help find a home or take it. Of course, some members will give the lecture of not being a responsible or serious dog person. In those cases- I say-Darling-you're trying to find a good home for your dog-that does make you responsible. When you get a home of your own- you can have a dog of your own-without these problems & people telling you what to do. Do you find this valuable?

You need to look at the top right corner of the discussion title, it means that a moderator has closed the discussion. I was told that I would have to restart a topic elsewhere, but it smacks of censorship, which is why threads here do not continue, and allow the site to rank higher. Thread length is part of the rating.

Also,
it is done when a certain moderator does not agree with a current view.

another way to have a discussion is to have short simple responses (1-2 sentences) more are confusing.

Max: I still don't know what Meyati was referring to about the guard dog page. Maybe I should blog about the more ferocious Danger Dogs in the Danger Dog Blog. Thanks for the idea. M

I often get confused when reading her theads, but I do know that pages were locked when opinions expressed, did not match hers. She sent me messages to that effect, and has blocked me from her messages after she sent that message.

I do love your page. Carry on, and see my updated profile. Maximus

"Every Danger Dog has a story. Go to: nepaldog.typepad.com/danger_dog_blog/ " ampage, This is a copy & paste quote from your profile page-the jump from danger dog to guard dog should be fairly easy to understand. In post number 5-I did apologise for having made that mistake and complimented you on your art work with the influence of Nepal.. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Sorry, Meyati. With the quote section, maybe I end up skimming too fast through the material. I will do a guard dog post soon though! Right now I'm concentrating on the artists as I have to write a bio on all 55 of them for an upcoming exhibit. Might as well test it out on the blog. Cheers. Do you find this valuable?

It's okay. I think that all of us are multi-tasking, so we misread at times. I belong to one relaxed group, where a person gets a goofus title for forgetting to sign in or an accidental misreading- a member announces that they earned the title and we sometimes discuss it. Sometimes we come out with a good laugh over it. I wish you luck in writing your bios-i'm sure that they'll be exceptional-Art can be difficult to write about because there are so many intrinsic and subliminal values in the work & in the artist. Take care. Do you find this valuable?

am, it is always hard not to sound pretentious or repetititve. I always have to re-read as my fingers slip and I seem just stupid.
