yes this is. As far as a dog this does not work on there are none. We have a 98.9% success rate. Only time I have not seen it work, it is because the owner refuses to follow the proper training. Training is key as it is with teaching anything to a pet. We actually guarentee it or you get your money back as long as your follow the training. It is not hard, based on positive reinforcement, it is that some people want it to work immediately without training.

We got another brand at Home Depot & have 3 dogs & it works quite well. I put the wire in myself. It can be either above or below the ground & can cover quite a few acres. Different sized transmitters can cover different areas. There's a transmitter for outside & one that needs to be kept inside. If there's a break in the wire-it starts beeping-but if it's ouside or an out building you can't hear the warning beep about the disconnection. Mine is in a bedroom & I'm quite happy with it. A person needs to check the batteries every week to make sure that they're working-which is usually why training doesn't seem to work. Also the batteries are placed in & turned-which seats them but doesn't give a connection-they need an extra turn with a quarter or something. It's also possible for a cat or something to pull the wire out while playing. If a dog has something emotional going on, they'll endure all sorts of pain to get what they want. It keeps the dogs about 2-3 feet off of it. You can turn the juice. After a year, the hounds spend a week or so without the collars & they don't jump the fence-7 ft. is nothing to a healthy Walker or Bluetick. The wire has to make a big loop. You just can't run out a half circle or something. We have a concrete patio outside of the back door-so I ended up running the wire over the roof so the dogs would go in & out. A few weeks ago, we came home & the back gate was open-we block it with 50 lbs concrete blocks-so I think someone pushed hard to get in. The hounds didn't follow anybody out. They just sat & waited to see what would happen next. I guess that whoever came in ran like heck, when the hounds went around the corner to see what the noise was. Missy is getting evil looking, with folds, squinty eyes, her ears flap in the wind. When Stonewall bawls his lips get stuck in his mouth & it looks like his fangs will bite his own nose.

I thoroughly recommend electronic fences. When the dogs get stupid-like the day the meter reader hit the neighborhood-and barked non-stop all day-I turned the juice up a bit & got their attention. The prongs will come unscrewed and fall out from the dogs running & playing with each other. So I keep checking the prongs. They say not to leave the collar on all day-24 hours-I agree-it would be so uncomfortable. Now that Missy can open all unlocked doors, we leave the collars on longer than I'd like to. I also use a hunting dog electronic collar training system. I wanted to quit using those prong training collars & lots of muscle. Even with those, I found myself hooking myself around a pick-up or light post when the hounds focused on a dog. A quick zap got their attention-I take turns using one or the other method for walks. I like to hike-last year a kid got ate by a mountain lion a few miles from here and I really don't want to track one on my rear or belly. Stonewall & Missy shush now when I tell them. Sometimes Stonewall gets in the mood to bawl all the way home & my neighbors LOL. Several times people have parked cars & sat & laughed when the stoner gets going. One woman got out, leaned over the hood & just laughed & waved. I first thought that she was having a heart attack-but it was a happy attack. But I like electronic training methods for hounds-as they're all nose & no brain. Also, they're great in breaking trash scenting. I don't want mine to be out after Jackrabbits that carry the plague & the Hanta virus.

Glad you have had a good experience. You pointed out some of the differences between Invisible Fence Brand and over the shelfers. We have a battery light indicator on the collar that will let you know when the battery is low and thats about every 4-6months. The equipment is made out of the highest grade material so you dont have to worry about any loose connections or prongs falling off. We also have over 300 different settings for the collars so we can program them specifically to each pet1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

It's good to get help in getting individual help for each dog-they have different tolerances in what gets their attention. The pit needs a heavy jolt- Stonewall gets carried away & needs a good jolt-then after that a light jolt bothers him-The lightest jolt bothers Missy greatly and she'll go to my bed-our den & crawl under the pillows all day. I have to coax her out. You probably have different colored collars so you know which collar to put on which dog. The company is good in sending free replacement prongs-but I get tired of hunting for them-I got a magnet thing to sweep my yard hunting for the prongs. People probably think that either hunting for landmines or I'm nuts.

Invisible fencing is wonderful for some dogs, but devastating for a dog that is soft or shy. When a puppy is in the Secondary Fear Development Stage, Invisible fencing should NOT be used. AND, any outside dog can enter the perimeter (harm or breed your dog) if a person doesn't have other secure type fencing to keep other dogs out. Just something to think about. Personally, I wouldn't recommend Invisible Fencing for every dog - just some of them.

I didn't want Missy to keep jumping the 6 ft concrete block wall. She doesn't have to wear the collar most of the time-neither does Stonewall. I'd rather have her on my bed from a strong jolt than run over, stolen or lost. I live in the city.

My family didn't want Benji and JayJay escaping the yard, which they have done before when I was a teenager. Benji and JayJay escaped one time, luckily they weren't hurt but they were dirty and messy and in the dog park, had to be cleaned up too. That's why we got Benji and JayJay the Invisible Fence.

The weather got nice & we've been walking a few miles a day. They also run around in the backyard for about an hour or more each evening. Missy has a small sore from the regular collar rubbing on her breast bone. Her skin is really silky & she has all the hound folds. The collar has to be tight or it slides off when Stonewall grabs while playing. It's tighter than normal, not choking tight-but it rubbed one of her folds & irritated it. I figured if the collar is going to fall off when either I or Stonewall grabs it-just take it off. I put the collar & tags on for a walk. Both dogs have microchips so any vet or animal control would know they belong to me & they are up to date on shots & the license-It's just that hounds will run for days & maybe go 20-60 miles when they're tracking something or start tracking something else. Then they forget how to get home. I want Missy's neck to get well, even though it's a small sorel.

I used to use an invisible fence, but I have Border Collies, which some can be "soft" and it really just freaked mine out. They were afraid all the time of being shocked and got to where they would shake when I put them outside. So, I had to do away with the invisible fence and just electic wire on the top and bottom of the fence to keep them from jumping out and digging. That, for me, has worked much better than the invisible fence. I agree with Yatahae, the invisible fence isn't for every single dog, especially the softer natured ones. I can see where it would be of value to the hound or terrier breed.

The voltage can be turned down. There's a clicking sound to warn the dog before it gets near the wire. I live where an electric wire is against the law. Sometimes the local laws dictate what type of things a person uses. Also-dogs are stolen here & taken for dog fights or killed for their hides. Missy is scared of my new point & shoot camera-because it clicked & it took a bit for me to find that I could turn off the clicking noise-over 200 instructional pages in English . While Missy is a hound-her skin chafes from regular collars & the sound of the camera has her run to my bed & hide under the pillows. The alternatives to the wire are horrible-taken for dog fights, getting lost & kept on a short chain & mistreated-for a while we had a violent dog rapist running around here-so brazen that he broke into animal shelters, shot by somebody scared of her, & most people here have guns, getting run over-we live a block away from a main intersection & close to a fire station that uses our street. A hook & ladder truck couldn't stop & couldn't swerve. Tying a hound up is extremely cruel, as they need to run. By the way-Missy is more nervous than any Aussie that I had. You have to look at the options. Just because Missy has a microchip-that doesn't mean that anybody would take her to the pound or a vet. She's a big dog with big teeth. Do you find this valuable? |

My Whippet, Guinness, can't be in an electric fence. She is so fast she does not feel the shock. So I let her in my fenced backyard.

That is a very outdated misconception. The technology has changed and improved so much. We now put whippet and greyhounds on the system because the collar reacts 4x faster then ever before. We put many fast breeds such as those all the time now. I have plenty of people who would love to talk to you about how well this works for their whippets.

My hounds are very fast-but because of proper training-they know where the wire is. Also there is a audio warning-clicking that warns them. Remember a whippet is a type of hound- and not all treeing coonhounds are slow. I have 2 of the sprinter breeds & they killed their own food for a long time-apparently they were successful in running down jackrabbits and other prey-as they are alive. I've watched them stalk & kill birds in a small fruit tree. kcancelmo check for message from me.
