The smartest dog in the world....seriously
Apr 14 2009, 5:18 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 14 2009, 5:18 PM EDT
I have always been the pet of purebred German Shepherds, Toy Poodles, and Shih Tzus. And then BroleyBlack adopted me. He is a Goldren Retriever Border Collie cross. I call him a Retriever Collie. He is the most wonderful guy. He is smart, sensitive, understanding and mostly patient!!! 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I already had 3 dogs and was not looking for another especially a large one. My son brought him home and try though I did he forced me to fall in love with him. He would come into the kitchen every morning and spin around to my music, dancing for me. He has been my baby ever since

You probably saved him from the pound or being starved & run over. I think that there's too much emphasis on dog rescue-like it pertains to Obama. BroleyBlack sounds thoroughly entertaining. Missy knows that she's my favorite dog-sort of whether I feel the same way or not. Always within a few feet of me. Standing at the front window waiting for me to come home, sitting on my chest to protect me from strange noises in the night & one day I went out and found a sleeping bag & bag of clothes directly under my bedroom window. I mowed the lawn & cleaned the area the day before. She's not happy with cars, but she insists on walking next to the street to protect me from vehicles. She's a happy-floppy hound that's in the very last stages of awkward puppyhood. She was so nervous & tried so hard to please that she peed any time we said her name. She's grown out of that & is a wonderful house dog. I can even shout at her to shut up when she gets going. I feel that the dogs have the right to let me know when something is going on-but there's a time to refocus. I usually call them over-sit them down & give them affection. because of the neighborhood, I always check out what is causing them to bay & bawl, within reason. Oh, yeah, Missy can open all types of doors & drawers. Now, if we could teach her to close them? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

How old is Missy, she sounds absolutely wonderful. I do not like my babies to bark unless it is important, being taught this gives me a sense of security because I know that when Broley barks it is real and important. Just an added note, I did not save Broley he saved me. My marriage was in trouble, I had gotten ill and he made me laugh and want to get up. His smile is like sunshine to a dark soul. All my dogs are great, Broley is like a son!!

I know what you mean. My son is a disabled vet-spinal injury & PSTD- and he feels that Missy & Stonewall are a gift from God to make him laugh. Missy is a bi-color (black & white body, tail & feet, long brown ears ), Walker Treeing Coonhound. The pic at the left is Stonewall, a Bluetick Treeing Coonhound mix. I really don't know how old they are, as they were both dumped off together at a high kill shelter in the middle of the desert. Both of them have gained some height after we got them, so they are younger than we first thought. The first day they were available one of the workers posted them on Petfinder.com. I saw it and called. They said to get right down or they might not be availiable. My son called me after a VA visit & I told him about the 2 hounds. Gas was $5/gal. but we speeded for almost a 100 miles one way to get one hound. They said these were really stuck up-which is a hound trait-so we stopped at a fast food in the town to eat greasy food & smell good to the hounds. We looked at them together & knew that we couldn't seperate them. We've hardly regretted it. When one of the workers finished saying that Stonewall was anti-social & didn't like people, Stonewall stood straight up-placed one paw on my son's chest and looked up into my son's eyes. My son swears that Stonewall said, "Help". Only after we filled out the papers-where they asked us again about Stonewall & my son said that Stonewall asked him to save him.-did they tell us that the boss had scheduled them to be gassed the next morning. They certainly looked at each other sort of funny when my son told what Stonewall said. The boss drove up & asked us what we were doing with the hounds-we told her that we were taking them home to the Big City- she asked us why and we told her that we love hounds. I enjoy sending them Emails thanking them for the hounds & attach pics every few months. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

My son feels so good to see them at the window & wagging their tails-they don't bark or bawl. Then we hear their bells jingle when the run to the door, while we unlock it. My son has a friend in a wheelchair and they've always moved back-without trying to escape or jump on Bill. They instinctively stay back while I get Bill in a recliner-then they mug him, smelling his feet & hands. My son pointed out that for the most part-Stonewall wagged his tail non-stop for about a year. We can walk over 3 miles & Stonewall never stops wagging his tail; Missy only wags her tail when I talk to her. Stonewall mostly stays near my son.
We have a wood picnic table that Missy took over . She likes to stand or sleep on it . Sometimes her ears wrap around her eyes when she jumps, so she takes a header. or she'll jump while trying to look where a noise is and she falls off. She'll sit down & most of the table is in front of her, so she falls off backwards. I got really sick & my son said that I slept for over 3 hours on the couch-both hounds had their faces about 6 inches from me & just stared-they didn't get food-water or anything. When I started moving-both of them very gentley poked their noses into my face. They're loosing some of their goofiness because they now know what humans are and are becoming city dogs. Stonewall prances & dances like your dog-He used to sit next to the box with the leashes and bay, because he wanted to go for a walk. We live in a large house-so on cold-windy day (it does get below zero at times)s-we play fetch in the house. Missy doesn't understand that at all-but gets jealous.

I was thinking of you and BB yesterday. It's been sort of crazy around here. 04/24-a gang banger was beating a woman up in my front yard- I called 911 & she escaped, running down the street. I was still on the line and went out and got the license plate number for the cops-the banger came back and started chasing me, screaming that he'd kill me. he saw the hounds in the window & went back to his car. he'd left the keys in it-I was tempted to take them-but in this city-I'd probably be arrested. Most people don't trust the police-DA-and laws here. It's a misdemeanor to have a 3' weed and you get a criminal record and a lien on your house. I was cited because the zoning inspector thought that the rose bushes in Jan. were weeds.
The hounds keep me sane-they were negative for their heart worm tests. I didn't use preventive care last year, but heart worm is spreading in this area now. So I have to be a different type of owner. I think that Missy would die if I had to keep her in a crate. She takes playing and sleeping very seriously.
Take care- it was great to hear from you. give BB a hug for me okay-Stonewall gives that 3 tail wags of approval-same as he gives a hotdog or Cheetos.

Girl you live in a very dangerous neighborhood, Where do you live, I live in a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada. There is little or no violence here, we just do not put up with it. You do not want to take anyones keys, it is theft and they might arrange their own brand of justice. Kiss your boy and the puppies for me, even though I probably will never meet you guys you have a place in my heart and prayers. Your zoning inspector needs a horticulture class, stupid people doing jobs they are not qualified for. Talk soon. DA Do you find this valuable?

I know-I've been worried-as the guy might remember where I live. Yesterday-they had on the front page how a kid was run over after a rave. The cops aren't doing nothing because he didn't have alcohol in his system-only drugs-and the dead kid's kid's aunt is a retired police capt. We call our area-the war zone- Like a Marine came home from Iraq-on leave- He wakes up because somebody is in the house. He takes a pistol & goes downstairs. Tackles the guy out in the front yard-the guy gets loose laughs at him-and says that when the Marine goes back to Pendleton, he'll come back rape & kill the Marines wife & 3 year old girl. The Marine is freaked out and chases the guy for 2 blocks and drills him with a good shot-He was sentenced to 30 years in prison- with great protest-to pardon him-the great governor lets him out of prison and he's on parole. The justice dept. says that we have some of the most corrupt police and judges in the nation-We have sufficient laws-but most of the police are poorly trained-the DA's office is a joke-and the judges are on the take. Nobody will run against a seated judge-in the city charter-a person can be a mayor only 2 X- Our current dictator-went to court and got that overturned-It's suppposed to be voted on.
Also-news people have to stay a block or more away from a crime scene-unless it's a photo op for APD. A new camera man went up to a crime scene-like he did in Chicago-several police officers put him in the hospital for a few days-destroyed over $5,000 of equipment.-He sued the court gave him a $100 and put the police on paid suspension for a week. Now they rope off the area-and news people stand in the corral like sheep. It's against the law to disrespect the police. Also on the front page was an article on what to do-to keep from being tazed or arrested-because a cop thinks that you're disrespecting them. The Marine lived on the opposite side of town
