Over 400 Shelter Animals Adopted in One Day---4/25/09
Apr 30 2009, 10:00 AM EDT
Yes, 400+ homeless animals found homes Saturday. PetSmart, Rescue Groups and other volunteers, private and city/county animal shelters, veternarians, and the newspaper and TV stations had an adoption fair- These dogs were adopted out of high kill shelters and filled up rescue shelters. The newspaper provided a large area shaded by trees, so it wouldn't be too hot. There was room for people to take dogs out of the pens and walk the dog around, to see if they liked each other. They had a carnival type atmosphere with volunteers from different clubs and associations that did face painting . Pet Smart provided it's trucks with the cages, dog crates and temporary pens for pups.Yesterday, I took Missy for her heartworm test and I ran into 3 people that got dogs at the fair. One was a woman with a collie/Aussie mix, beautiful dog, one an older woman-I don't remember the dog and one dude with a 6 week-old toy or teacup pup that was carried in a flannel quilted wrap so it wouldn't get cold or hurt. Some children talked about how some neighbors picked pups that were too young to leave momma and the kids in the neighborhood were waiting for the new pup to get old enough. This wasn't the usual group of pet owners-these were proud-happy people that were anxious to do the right thing for their dogs. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"What a wonderful event! Are your three dogs successful in passing their heartworm tests? I know you cannot take them all at once, it is cost prohibitive. mm Do you find this valuable? |

It's $22/dog-it's the preventive meds that are god awful-$80/year-but they taste good-even Stonewall likes it and it's a dewormer for the other worms-ttape worms, round worms, etc. Since we live by the fair grounds I use a spray to keep flies off of their faces. I clean the yard every day- but you know face fly season. Levi has his car. They had him go under mandatory credit counseling-explaining about the benefits of extra payments-even $5. Went over his budget, etc. his payments arejust under 240. Then he has insurance. I've got to visit Tom. Don't say anything to Levi about the debt counseling-because that will mean that maybe I don't trust him etc. It will just hurt his feelings. Do you find this valuable? |
