tumor near his spleen

Dear Kelly,I was so sorry to hear about x's tumor. Just 5mos. ago we had to put our golden Taylor down,she too had tumors on her spleen. She had just turned 14,we had very few symptoms,and being a nurse I keep going over it in my mind,did I miss something??? I believe it was hemangiosarcoma a very agressive cancer in goldens and didn't know anything could be so common until I read the blog on wiki fido!!! My first sign of trouble was taylor didn't want to eat,even roast beef and she was a bit more tired than usual. In the previous days we played went for our walks and her appetite was fine. Her belly was a tiny bit distended and as I watched her,I could see it was tender. My daughter took her to the vets and an ultrasound found two small tumors one on each side of her spleen. Our vet during her exam removed 3 syringes of frank blood from her abdomen. My 11yr old daughter was with me....there were signs of liver involvement on the ultrasound. Taylor was bright eyed and tail waggging when we came back to hear the ultrasound results. We were so not ready to hear Taylor's prognosis,this is an unmerciful cancer that spreads like wildfire...it's so unfair....and two days before Christmas. We have 3 goldens,they are like my children and my daughter's siblings but I know I don't have to tell you that,or anyone who has owned a golden. We decided to put Taylor down rather than wait for the day she bled out,becoming short of breath and in severe pain. My daughter Jenn and I layed with her...stroked her gently and spoke softly of all our happy days...we told her we'd meet again at the rainbow bridge. It was by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do....she didn't want to leave us....the vet had to administer an additional dose of med....I saw the look of surprise on his face when he checked on us and Taylor was still with us..we layed with her ,after a few mins.she was at peace.I hope this has helped you some. This is King, 30 minutes before he died. Three weeks before, he had surgery to remove his spleen which had tumors on it. His signs of distress before the surgery were that he had lost his strength in his back legs. King was 13 1/2. He came thru the surgery fine and was up and ready to go home in 2 days. He was like a puppy again for the next 3 weeks. Then Friday 8/14/09, about 6 pm, I noticed he looked like his back leg was shaking and he wouldn't walk. I let him rest and at 9 PM, when he still couldn't walk, we got in the the car and headed for the hour drive to the vet. King just stopped breathing at 10:15 pm. Vet says he bled out. He didn't cry or anything. I keep rethinking if I could of done any more for King. Said maybe they missed part of a tumor and they are fast growing. I am heartbroken and still crying.

Dear all, im so so sorry to hear about your losses, it brings tears to my eyes just reading your thoughts and pain your going through, both storys showed brave dogs that battled out till the end but was there time to go, how ever hard it is and my heart hurts for you it really does, but try and think of all your memouries and how lucky we are to be blessed with such amazin creatures,that they become our lives and we live along side them almost as one, iv just found out im 7 weeks pregnant and really hoping Bj can hang on till the baby comes cuz it will be awfull to not have him share this time of my life with me like everything before, he is doing ok has his good days and bad days but still doing what he does best, loving and caring about me, sending you all my love and to let you know im thinking of you.xxxxxxxxxxxxx
