public water bowls?

Often, after going to dog parks, Indy develops a dog cold - goopy eyes, sniffles, and a cough. I've been letting him drink from the public water bowls, but someone suggested that this could be the source of his ailments. Should I avoid water bowls that serve hordes of canines? Are they really just cesspools of dog disease?

it's highly possible. There are things like kennel cough that are highly contagious-though the dog doesn't get deathly ill. In my area-the biggest problem is skin diseases on fluffy dogs spread through dog parks. The dogs pick up the bacterias, fungus and even virus from deseased dogs and the ground and it spreads under the the fluffy hair. I just about threw up when I saw a dog that a groomer had shaved several ulcerated areas and the owners took it in the vet, while I was there. They just sit it down without a leash and it headed for my dog. The receptionist told them to control their dog-she looked as sick as I felt. It got about 4 ft. from Stonewall. I said, "Excuse, me, but I think my dog wants to eat your dog. He's a wild dog that I just got." Stonewall was snaggletoothed, because his lips were stuck in his teeth. So they saw these huge fangs on a large hound. They picked up their dog. Not all people feed a good diet, use flea-tick,-worm- etc. control-have adequate shelter or even get shots and basic health care. Just because people scrape up feces doesn't mean that the grass-ground is clean unless it's sanitized. There are many people that will take their dogs to a park so the can hang with friends-not for the dog. Responsible dog owners carry their own water and have their own water container. I carry a collapsible bowl and a bottle of water when I take my dogs for a walk. it's the desert-it can be cool-then heat up in a hurry-and sometimes we get walking more than we think. I take my dogs to dog training school. People will allow their dogs to rape my dog-sticking the nose up the rear. They don't even apologize-their dog goes to a dog park. Trainers try to explain about diseases in dog parks and ask-would you want to tongue kiss all of your co-workers or your kids to tongue kiss every kid at school? I would think that your own water bowl would be a good idea.
