Never chain a dog!
Sep 3 2006, 5:31 AM EDT
Please reconsider the main photo - keeping any dog on a chain is a terrible idea and high drive dogs who crave being with their humans are especially prone to behaviour problems due to frustration and loneliness. Most dogs who bite are "outside" or chained dogs.
Rottweilers can make excellent family dogs and if raised right, most do well with other pets, although they may not do well with other same-sex dogs.
Rottweilers do NOT need "exercise to relieve aggression" as they are not inherently aggressive dogs. They do need training, jobs to do, socialization and exercise for general well being. Did I mention training? They love to work, it's what they were bred for.
No dog should be relegated to a back yard. If you do not want a dog to be a part of your household, do not get a dog.
Never buy ANY dog from the newspaper, online or from a pet store. Please consider rescue, or a reputable, code of ethics breeder. A well bred Rottweiler often costs less than an online or pet store Rottweiler.
Never ever let your Rottweiler get fat. Most that I see are overweight. This is very bad for their joints.
I have owned and worked Rottweilers for 20 years.

Aha! I edited the content and added a photo of a German Rottweiler. :) I couldn't get rid of the chained Rottweiler photo, though. Do you find this valuable?

Gee, I thought that the dog was on a LEASH, and not a chain, and the collar is an acceptable alternative to a choker, easier on the dog and the coat. Additionally, KUDOS to the staff for choosing to show a Rottweiler with its natural tail! Do you find this valuable?

Yup! The main photo is a leash... Somebody has posted another one previously, which has already been replaced... By the way, if you've got pictures of your own that you'd like to see used on the site, breed pages or otherwise, please feel free to add them! Can't have enough great pictures of great dogs! It's plain to see it is a proud owner WALKING their dog ON A LEASH, not a chain. Grow up and get a hobby and stop emposing your stupid views on the rest of us.

Jeez lighten up, honey and read the other responses before you yaketty yak. :)

The original photo was indeed a dog on a chain - as noted by doggie gal, it has been replaced.
I am the one who posted the current photo of the natural tailed Rottie - the one being walked on a leash by it's proud owner.
Got it now?

I raised a Rotti cross he was nearly a full breed, he was one of the best pets we ever owned, we had 4 children. We had him for 4-5 years, then I received a Timer wolf which as so as nearly a full blood, mother was half wolf, father was full timber wolf. He came from a zoo keeper, she knew how he loved me and I him. At that time I was working in California and I own a home in BC Canada. This is where our Rotti lived. It was tricky to introduce them together but not impossible, the wolf was 16 months old. Our Rotti 4.5 years old and weight 185 lbs. We took them for walks daily sometimes twice a day. We own a house with a 1/4 ace of land with a 6 foot high cedar fence. This yard had trees grass and children, they both loved it. When I first, brought the wolf he challenged me, I understood wolves, so I body slammed him, a day later he tried again, I did it again. Now I was the Alpha male, I love his animal he was smart, smarter then most humans...amazing. I had to change my Rotti to a large tree for two days, I watched them feeling them out, then after two days. I seen the Rotti settle down, the wolf had no fear of the Rotti, he wanted to make friends. Now, I walked up to the Rotti, hugged it, unchained him let them fight, the Rotti won the 1st day, the next day the Wolf won, they became friends. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
