Still not getting the "potty outside" line....

"Mr. Nelson" gets a walk religiously at 6:00 am every day, 4:30 pm each afternoon and 7:30 pm each night. He pees a lot on his walks (which he loves) but still will take a "leak" in the house too every now and then. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Mr. Nelson might be marking his territory which is a problem with male dogs. Occassionaly, his bladder might get too full. If he does this in just one or two places-it's probably a full bladder-another way is if he makes a big puddle. If he's marking his territory-it's usually just a squirt on the corner of something, by doors, or on something new, usually a new couch or a friend's purse. Either way use something that removes the odor-even though you clean with soap or some spot remover, they can still smell it and want to remark the place. I use pine oil with success. I also mop floors with it and don't have to rinse. Some female dogs also mark, but it's mostly a male thing -like football and beer to human males. Another thing is that if Mr. Nelson does it in only one room-you might want to keep him from that area. That's what TV dog trainers say-but I don't understand what keeps a dog from going somewhere else in another room. Hartz makes a good animal repellent spray. My cats tore up a couch-when I bought a new one, I sprayed it every night and it kept the cats from clawing the couch and the hounds away from it. I've used that spray successfully since the 1960s. I used it to keep cats out of the babies' sandbox. My kids didn't develop any diseases and the grandkids are healthy-so I guess it's okay around humans. Do you find this valuable?

I agree with the other poster about quantity of uring to determine whether it's marking or pottying. I'd try adding a potty break between noon and 1:00 and one just before you go to bed. Right now he's having to wait more than 10 hours during the morning to afternoon and overnight. That's a pretty long time for some dogs.

Actually-that would be a long time for me. It certainly doesn't have to be a long walk-maybe somebody that you trust could take him for a quick walk in the afternoon. Then a you can have a quick visit to a curb before bed time. Do you find this valuable?
