Tip for finding a friendly dog
Sep 24 2006, 12:54 AM EDT
Dogs are pack animals that operate with a hierarchy - so you as the human have to establish yourself as the alpha. Dogs show submission to their superiors by rolling on their backs, so if you find a dog that quickly rolls onto its back you know you have found a dog that acknowledges you as its master - makes for much easier training!-
Then for dog training, use exactly the same principles as for child behavior problems!

This is a "great" tip. Most dogs are not born to be leaders and they welcome the opportunity to be part of a pack. So when you do find this wonderful dog, be sure to be consistent in letting the dog know that you are the alpha and that he/she is part of a pack. All family members should be see by the dog as the pack leader. This makes a much happier relationship and a much happier dog. When a dog is calm and submissive, this is the way they want to be. You will be rewarded with a wonderful animal that is not only willing but happy to oblige and this will keep things safe and orderly. A great way to learn how to train a dog that is already willing to be submissve is to check out the Dog Whisperer. He has a show and a wonderful web site where you can purchase and learn. He has a lot of tips to help you work on your dog's behavior. Do you find this valuable?
