I can't believe I found this!!!! My grand father had a dog, when I was a child, named Koolie/Coolie. She was a blue merle and he used her to keep racoons out of the grape orchard. He used to visit Australia quite a bit getting grape plants that were used to the heat and dry weather. He said he got her from Australia and brought her to California with him. He passed away in 1995. He would have enjoyed seeing these dogs on here. I remember growing up and playing in the grape orchard with this dog and some of the other dogs that looked like her that the workers had. I guess they were the same kind, because they all looked alike.

Hello Grapeseed, so nice to have a name to refer to.
I am glad that you find our page of information so great, we do too.
I wonder if you or your family have any photos of the blue merle your grandfather had, it would be lovely to display them for the general public interest.
We have always known that Koolies arrived in America much earlier than our first registered Koolies.
We would love to follow up and see if we can't locate others that may have bred on with their bloodlines and see how those early Koolies have progressed, maybe even link them back to bloodlines here through past correspondence with new owners and breeders.
I hope you visit our other Koolie sites, I know you and the spirit of your grandfather will gain a lot of enjoyment from the journey.
If you wish to send photos or other information regarding the Koolie please send them to fixittweak@gmail.com, no matter how big it will handle the size.

Hi Grapeseed

Great to hear your story, do you remember if your Grandfather ever bred from your koolie? I wonder if the dogs the workers had were early Aussies and I wonder if they might have bred with the koolie??
