I wish you and the hounds luck--we just had a discussion about exercise for coonhounds-new hound owner-and everyone said take them out and turn them loose, even a hound owner. I keep telling everyone that the poor things don't have a sense of direction and everything but that big nose seems to shut down. I'll feature this and hope that someone needs a loving walker. My Walker and Bluetick were wild-and we all spent the afternoon curled up on the couch together-I finally got mine trained enough where I took them out to city open space-jack rabbits-coyotes and mountain lions-It's a relief that we can start hiking and having fun-

Thank you so much! We hope to find homes for our Coonhounds. We also have a blue tick named Jessie. When people turn them loose, that is how they wind up at the shelter :( . They all have been there for quite some time and would really love a home.

They are on a leash on hikes-I won't turn mine loose-unless it's in a tennis court with 20 ft high chain fence for training and jumping-we have one in park in the next block. I have chain lengths and padlock the 3 gates so nobody lets them out. I took my hounds out again yesterday- the rich people heard the baying and came out- pet them and everything- If they start asking where to get one-I'll have them contact you-as you're closer to NM than the Carolinas- Missy gave a little bawl yesterday- Since we've started, a friend is helping me by walking Missy, while I handle Stonewall- Yesterday a pair of German shephers wanted to fight-they were on a leash-but the people didn't say anything to them to be quiet or no-Missy decided to fight and I was saying "No" She was held firmly- she's less than 3 years old-she settled down-but not 2 quick. Then the bluetick decided to help-I said, "Leave it" and he stopped and followed me. Somebody asked me what I'd hunt-if I hunted- I told them mountain lions. They thought a minute-then said you aren't hunting up here are you? I need to finish painting in the front room before Christmas-God bless for trying to help those poor lost hound babies-

I have some wonderful news! Jani, Georgia, Libby, and Fox. Georgia was at the shelter for 4 years and was finally adopted! Libby and Fox have found new homes as well. Jani is still waiting but we have high hopes for this beautiful girl!

What about the poor bluetick baby? I'm partial to the notional and stubborn blues. We have a 6 ft. concrete block fence around the back yard. These rescue groups say that will hold a hound-LOL-mine can clear it from a sit. We put in an electronic fence, where the collars shock them if they get too close. So many rescue groups say that's mean-It's better for them to be run over? This winter neighbor and stray dogs have been dancing on top of the wall, teasing my hounds and even coming in the yard. Then mine chased one several times-then they decided to go hunting-they just took the pain. The Walker returned when we called her-bless her pointy head. We drove all over the place following the Bluetick and friends pointing the way. I was running barefoot on black ice and snow. A pit that had been rescued from a fight ring jumped 6 ft. to get a piece of my hounds. The hounds actually went in the house on command. That flustered the pit so much that my son pushed it and the owner pulled it back by its tail. I'm building a fence extension-makes fence 7 ft. +. The hounds are relaxed now about the pit. Today we started the back fence to keep dogs in the alley off the wall. They watched and just wagged their tails. The owner of the dog that my dogs followed, says that her dog is scared and hides. Up on thepart of the fence that I was building, I saw that dog walk on the walls to different yards and sneak bite people. The lady behind me beat it with a shovel. This week she got a big dog to fight the so called scared dog. Both of them quarrel, yelp, walk on the walls and will probably become friends. We had to put up livestock electric fencing to keep my hounds in before Christmas. It keeps the other dogs out, but not from prancing on top of our wall. A poor hound baby can only take so much.

O yes, Miss Jessie the bluetick is still with us and shy as ever. A family in our town stops out twice a week to work with her and help her become socialized

I'm glad forMiss Jesse's shopping trips. I wish that I could come and visit, but I live about 2,500 miles away. We're west of Houston by 1900 miles. I'm not rich-my 2 hounds and a hearing impaired grandson have been keeping me broke. Most people don't realize how much sense and compassion hounds have. My son is a disabled vet. he walks awful slow, but a cane or walker would put him in a wheelchair, maybe he wouldn't be able to breathe on his own. He was friends on walkers, canes and in wheelchairs. The hounds immediately sized the situation up and just place their heads on the laps of these friends.
